Nah its still too early to tell for this letran team. I dont think their front court as it is can match well with csb's. Their guards are also inexperienced compared to other contenders so pressure might get to them in crunch time leading to bad decisions and to's

In their recent games, their shooters shooting well kept them toe to toe with their uaap opponents. And i dont think they can regularly shoot that well in every game, especially guys like cuajao who's a streaky shooter and even jimboy estrada has his off games. They also get a chunk of their points from to's. So teams who take care of the ball better already has an advantage. Offensively, their plays are not that special, good tacticians can easily adjust to them. Lets not forget, for most of the ncaa teams, this is their first time facing this team(new coaching staff and mostly new players). As of now i have csb, sbu, mu and eac above them.

Another NC rule that made no sense (from my perspective) it is basically convincing the UAAP rejects to transfer to NC so they would have a chance to win the ROY.

I also have the same final 4 contenders BUT i have some doubts in EAC. Their frontcourt is somewhat weak, only reliable player might be Luciano. Although they have a veteran backcourt / wing players in Pagsanjan. Gurtiza. Doromal and Quinal.

Luciano aint even that tall, he's somewhere around 6'2 hahaha tho 6'8 Erlan Umpad somehow imroved his footwork and finishing and shows that he's willing to work, he's like a poor man's Ladis Lepalam. Good thing rest of the top contenders except csb have problems down low with their bigs too. Tho as the user above have pointed out, they should be in the top 4, mainly due to jerson cabiltes. People forget that the players he has now are the guys he personally recruited thus much more suited to what system he runs, not to mention these guys have been in the team for over a year now so you know the execution will be much better compared to the recently assembled letran team. They'll (letran) be solid too for sure but as is with the other teams, they dont have a solid big man rotation. Especially if santos wont commit to season 100.

              • Basing on the comments and preseason, it’s benilde who is clearly the team to beat. Other teams will surely make some surprise and hoping mapua will surprise us too. We all know where clint escamis goes thats where mapua goes.

Mapua should he fine, sure they might be in danger when teams will focus on escamis like what they did with reyson and letran last year, but atleast escamis is a much better playmaker than reyson was. When he's not scoring, he's a willing passer, big question is who'll step up when escamis is checked. Last year they had hernandez, bonifacio and peter rosillo. All are gone now along with kobe dalisay who was also contributor in the guard rotation. Getting hubilla is good start but he doesnt have a reliable outside shot yet, sure he chould be a PF in the ncaa but other solid pf's in the league now like mark sangco, yukien andrada, kobe monje all can shoot the 3 when needed. As for the other bigs atleast Fermin and Jabonete looks decent.

Recto is the most prolific offensive player among the cardinals. He doesnt flinch at crunchtime. He is that elite of a player.

They are now on final 2-3 weeks preparation for the ASEAN University Games in Indonesia by beginning of July to be followed by overseas training (heard its on Korea). Also, timely, coach Randy Alcantara is about to get clearance from his doctors to get back to coaching after his major back/neck surgery done last March which causing high blood pressure during S99 late 2nd round and worsen during the finals (that is why he was not able to coach during games 2 and 3.)

Yup, i like him as small ball 4 but the problem is i dont think he's establishing himself to be 'that' guy or maybe the coaching staff hasnt unleashed him yet. Dude only average 7 pts in 20 mins of playing time. If he's gonna be one of the top guns, Mapua and clint escamis will need more than that for them to keep up with the rest of the contenders.

They should be but the same was said last offseason and look how the ncaa season ended haha. So we'll see, i just like their odds more due to the personnel they have now but during the games itself its still up the coaching staff calling the shots and the players' execution. Thats why i dony have letran yet as a top contender. They have a rookie head coach and a rookie point guard with lots of newcomers joining the remnants of a 2 win team. Some of the 3peat guys might still be there, but those guy like javillonar are not the kind of vets you like in your team haha. Beda with Yuri Escueta and their championship experience will still be a beast next year. Same with Randy Alcantara and his mapua boys.

Problem with Coach Jerson is that how will they fare the seasons moving forward. After season 100 Pagsanjan, Doromal and Gurtiza will be graduating. Who will step up? Villarente from Arellano is undergoing residency. Nobie Lucero still has 2 years if i remember it correctly. We just hope their Brigadiers go to guys will stay.

They'll still have some pieces, guys like Wilmar oftana and deo lucero, both has 2 more years after season. Their guards quinal and ochavo are also developing. Guys like Jacob Shanoda from SSC and Jerolan Omandac from LPU at the forward positions and his players from hope christian should be eligible by then. Lastly if EJ Castillo, ncaa jrs MIP from their brigadier team decides to stay, he should help provide the scoring left by doromal and gurtiza. I mean i dont wanna hype him up but when he took over eac last year, team was not as better as it will be once gurtiza and company graduates. Of the guys he inherited only Cosejo was solid and even he was undersized in his position, maguiliano was erratic while ralph robin and gurtiza himself almost got themselves kicked out of the program, still led eac to one of its best seasons in recent years
