Thats called a consensus vote. Again, if you listened to the consensus all the time without thinking for yourself, you'd think UE was the real threat to DLSU's back to back bid by the end of the first round. Look at where UE is now: barely in the final four.

Favorites are precisely based on consensus as someone pointed out above. In sports betting, favorites are based on who the consensus think will likely win.
If UP wins the championship, don’t come back to everyone here and say—- I told you so, UP are the favorites. If UP wins, it just means the favored team did not win, which happens in sports (underdogs do win sometimes).

I will agree that UP was the pre-season favorite before any games were played. But now that the elimination round is over, that has changed.

Go to betting sites and if there's a uaap bet going on, whoever is favored there is the favorite. That's how markets work.
Can't rely on "trust me bro" when it comes to consensus of everyone.
In my book, a defending champion who has the reigning mvp, a still solid supporting cast and better record (even H2H) in elims will be the favorite. It can be argued that UP this season has always had the better "individual ingredients" but as history has shown, that doesn't always equate to being the best team.

Aside from having the top 2 players in the league, I think we are underselling the fact that DLSU has the more superior coaching staff.
Also, come playoffs, team normally shorten their rotations so that negates the depth advantage. A better gauge would be to compare the closing 5s of both teams.

UP gives regular minutes to 12 out of the 16 players on its roster. The ones who do not get minutes in important games (unless there's foul trouble for the regular rotation guys) are: Briones, Udodo, Alter and Walker
DLSU is the same. Only 12 out of 16 players on its roster get minutes, and those who don't are: Rubico, Konov, Isaiah Phillips and Alian. With Abadam out, DLSU has used a rotation of 11 guys in the second round.
So you'd probably think--- why is UP getting criticized for not shortening its rotation when they use basically the same number of players as DLSU?
The main difference is that I don't think anyone in UP averages more than 25 minutes a game, when in DLSU both Quiambao and Mike Phillips play at least 25 minutes, with Joshua David close to that as well. I don't know the reason why the top UP guys can't play more minutes--- is it because the coaching staff need to play some guys to make them happy (the Bayla minutes really are a head scratcher), or the main guys aren't conditioned enough to play for extended minutes (I doubt this)?
In any case, here's who I think are the closing five for each of the teams:
UP - Cagulagan, Millora-Brown, Abadiano, Alarcon, Lopez
DLSU - Quiambao, Phillips, David, Macalalag, Austria
For me, I think only these guys should get significant minutes in the finals, if they meet each other
UP - Torculas,Torres, Fortea, Felicilda, Stevens (the latter two out of necessity, QMB and JD can't play 40 minutes)
DLSU - Ramiro, Gonzales, Gollena, Marasigan, Dungo

BOOSTER TAKEOVER? The groundwork is being laid by Strong Group Athletics (SGA) to take over rum giant Tanduay as the major sponsor of the UE men's basketball program beginning in Season 88, multiple sources told.
Owned by billionaire entrepreneur Frank Lao, SGA also sponsors several other programs in both the NCAA and the UAAP including the UE juniors team which is currently unbeaten at 12-0. Source: Homer Sayson on X.

Its not that fake humility taht we say UP isnt favorite, but championship is juits abare minimum for this basketball program, they should become a national center of excellence on producing nt worthy players... I would'nt be surprised if guys like Chicco Briones and Belmonte will not get minutes even if they should have as they are the best matchu[ on the guard laden la salle team..To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.
