  • VJ Pre should start practicing to play as wing by now. Huge potential but with his height as 6'4, he won't be able to do what he is doing downlow against bigger opponents.

Ogana really is impressive. He reminds me of an Emman Galman. He can score. Wish he can work on his shooting tho. Thats the only he can make team A. Whoever is handling this kid needs to advise him to work on his 3s.

Dom Sarmiento is your typical skinny tall dude. Unfortunately he doesn't have the "fight" in him to make up for his lack of weight either. He's a finesse player. He needs to add weight and be more confident in his shot too. He has a good shooting touch that's frankly underutilized.

With all that said, the hardest thing for DLSU—or any team, for that matter—to find is a player as dominant as Mike Phillips.

Amos is a mythical level 5 type of talent, but he doesn’t impact the game like Mike. No one does except for QMB. Not only can Mike fill up the stat sheet, but he also boosts the team’s morale with his energy. Watching him play with such intensity in limited minutes against Ateneo shows that when the game slows down and others start to play haphazardly, he’ll still be going at 100% and outworking everyone on the floor.

Calling it now: Mike is bound to capture a MVP next year.

        • UP and DLSU fans trashtalking Ateneo attendance during the rivalry game. But DLSU has never been 7-8th place, I think recently theyve been 6th at worst. If they were Id guess they'd have a similar attendace. While UP's attendance during the dark days was basically non existent as well.

Ogana is a wannabe Scottie Thompson, loves playing below the rim. Ruins spacing since Mike/Henry/Raven cant really shoot. But I think he can fit with Mason at 4 but not Luis since Luis also cant shoot.

You really think a difference between 6th and 7th place is the reason why DLSU fans choose to support them? Last I checked it's the final 4 not the final 6.

DLSU has always had high expectations given their recruits and despite playing way below expectations, the DLSU side always remained filled.

Compounding Ateneo's poor record, the venue being at MOA (heavy traffic) plus the late start times also has an effect on Ateneo fans' attendance. I was there last Saturday, and the game ended around 9pm. There was traffic even in the parking.

During the 5-peat years (when DLSU was not so good), Ateneo fans outnumbered DLSU fans in games held in Araneta.

Its a hypothetical but I believe if DLSU is 1-6 in the first round vs a 1 loss Ateneo side then the attendance would be similar. The hardcore patron Atenistas where in attendance but everywhere else was a mess.

Outnumbered but never did the fans abandon them. Have you seen the attendance last game? It was 9K+ and the overwhelming majority of them were wearing green.

If i remember it correctly it was a disagreement between sponsorship. As Freego used to back up coach Gold even during his Chiang Kai Shek days. When they hired (NU seniors) coach Gold they thought that they would only be hiring him not knowing his loyalty is with Freego.

Wow. Imagine if that didnt happen then that would mean NU would have had Nash, Carl, Terrence, and KQ.

NU is extremely underrated in terms of building grassroots program. This is the same school that formed Belen, Solomon and co from Jrs to Srs.

NU recruits even for its HS programs. It's not as if these players started schooling in NU at a young age. They were recruited to transfer to Nazareth School. Tamayo actually came from Adamson HS and was actually ROY his first year playing in the UAAP juniors. Even Quiambao, Alarcon, Abadiano spent their first year/s of HS in other schools before transferring to NU.

They do the same thing in their women's volleyball team. Alyssa Solomon was a transferree from Perpetual Help.

I wouldn't exactly consider that grassroots if NU acquired these players when they were already well developed stars.

Yes, as I said I was there last Saturday (Upper Box was almost empty). And I can also tell you that back then, an overwhelming majority of them were wearing blue (I'd say around 70-30 split easily). I'm not invalidating your point, but to say that Ateneo fans abandoned the team now, while DLSU fans in the down years did not, is being quite selective. At the end of the day, not all fans are made equal. Some are diehards, some just go to the games when the team is winning, some go with their families for quality time etc. In any team sporting event (for entertainment), you can be sure that winning correlates to having more fans.

Coach Gold had a loaded Adamson Juniors team back then. Take a look at this team, and see if you can count how many went on to play college ball -

That season, Adamson was running roughshod over the competition in the UAAP. But someone from an opposing team found out about questionable credentials of one of ADU's star players, and reported it to the board. He was deemed ineligible and all of ADU's wins were deemed forfeited. IIRC, that someone from an opposing team was then-NU Bullpups Head Coach Jeff Napa and the star player was former DLSU player Encho Serrano. Fast forward to that very offseason, ADU let go of Coach Gold because of the scandal, and NU proceeds to pick him up for their juniors team. Ironically, Jeff Napa "lost" his head coach position because he reported his eventual replacement. Coach Gold's players who still had eligibility transferred to NU with him (Padrigao transferred to , those who didn't have transferred to Coach Gold's other team, Chiang Kai Shek.
