If you ask them about basketball, they probably only the "sikat" players and nothing else. I feel bad for the real UP fans that stuck with them even before Gov Remulla funding. Those guys were just happy to support them regardless of the outcome.
On the contrary, even those fans who were there prior to the recent resurgence are the ones barking loudly now..

Two recent examples: the wife of an ex UP President posted about the alleged incident on her FB wall (I’m sure most of you have seen the post it’s been widely shared), claiming she actually saw the frothing spit on Torres’ shoulder. The funny thing is I could actually see where this woman was seated on TV and all I can say is…. What bionic eyes to see spit from that distance lol

Then after Bahay committed to Ateneo, Perasol releases a statement alluding negatively towards Ateneo, and a prominent figure in NTGBU also posts a lengthy tirade again alluding to whatever it is Ateneo did.

so yeah it’s not the new fans that are insufferable for me. I’d argue it’s worse on the part of Perasol and the like.

Oh so it's a character trait common among all of them? Yikes. Okay, got it lol.

Yes, they have the ultimate authority on the court. They have the power to eject even the coaches.

In AAU games, it's common for refs to even throw out unruly fans. That is the ultimate line that should not be crossed...fans should at all costs be prevented from joining any altercation. That's when sh*t hits the fan like in Malice in the Palace and Basketbrawl Australia. Even Amores v CSB was escalated by I believe a player's brother in the stands.

Refs have a difficult job just like our ordinary traffic cops. They don't really make a lot and probably the training is not that adequate and yet they have to control sometimes very powerful and entitled people. One just got mauled recently.

That Perasol “statement” when word leaked out Bahay was committing to Ateneo should have clued you in.

In all your years of watching UAAP basketball, when have you ever seen any basketball program issue a statement like that?

          Such hubris.

This a quite a hasty generalization I would say. But whatever. Anyway, much better to talk about the games inside the court rather than all these off-the-court items.

Have you been on social media lately? They have hashtags and whatnot for something they do not have concrete proof of and when called out on it, there's always a mental maneuvering to justify their actions.

              • I recently saw the alleged "evidence" of the spitting incident. Here are my thoughts: Torres playing the victim is typical UP behavior, which I’ve come to terms with. But did anyone stop to think why he would invade someone’s personal space, especially a coach's? And someone way older than him at that? That in itself is a passive-aggressive way to provoke someone. Doing it to someone more than 20 years your senior is a telltale sign that Torres lack manners, and proper decorum. He lacks respect for others.

Not to mention, he covered his mouth as he passed by Topex. Who knows what else he did or said?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and accuse Torres of trying to instigate something and tried to goad for a response from Topex.

From the moment that Amores looked like he was restrained by one of his coaches on their side of the court up to the end of his amok, it was just several seconds. That's how fast it usually is unless more people join in.

The Batista-esque bouncers would also have to be as fast as Usain. He even knocked down Davis who was pretty big and muscular himself.

The only social media I have is FB which I primarily use to (1) greet people on their birthday and (2) buy stuff online. Social media is such a toxic wasteland, I don't really follow and put much weight to it but I now understand where you are coming from.

Is Mich Laureta a hardcore UP fan during their dark days?

She is all over FB, will post on the comment section. Then if there are posts against UP, she will reply on that particular post with her first post on the comment section.
She gets triggered if your post/comment is against UP.

Don't be too quick to make excuses for Topex either.

Even if Torres did say something, Topex as the older person should've just ignored.

But yes, I am with you that the video proof that most UP fans are reposting on social media is hardly any proof at all. I am sure they are other angles though, how can there not be when we have multiple angles for replays? Cameras continue to run even in a dead ball situation.

                        • Does GAB had the authorization to regulate what is going on in college tournaments or is it strictly mandated only on the professional level?

anyway, we all know that the referee is the alter ego of the commissioner and (must) part of the powerful committee who runs any tournament be it professional, amateur, varsity and any level.

that is why anyone should not and must not mess with them of any form.

we've been hearing, reading and watching incidence wherein refs was always a victim of some unpleasant situation e.g. mauled, taunt, threaten, mock, every negativity.

whatever the result be it positive or negative of a particular game, the referee should not be blame solely on the result but the finger pointing should be also be the one's who runs the show

as I said the men with the whistle are the alter ego.

I totally agree on Sir Mets statement.

"Refs has a difficult job like those people who are instructed to control traffic in the streets be it during sunny or rainy.

esp. if they encounter(ed) and face(d) entitled people with cuckoo in the head

oh dear!! "mahirap talaga yan boi".

                          goodluck to them.

                            This is an underrated factor.

A lot of these players are near their mid-20s and are grown men. Grown men who already make more money than a lot of other men, some even have families already.

The public's mental picture of these players as same-aged and somewhat innocent, polite and respectful as ordinary college students is not accurate.

I never even heard of her prior to the recent UP resurgence. But she is the best/worst example of the type of fan that cha34 above referred to.

Her UP pedigree cannot be denied though, I heard she graduated from UPIS and then UP-D.
