  • Kq can always improve and improvise. He has good nerves under pressure and certainly not athletically inferior to the uaap players who guard him.

As in any basketball game, it is the high quality of the defensive capabilities of the opponent that matter more. Even lbj and mj have been humbled by good players in the nba .

Plus, an insider showed me his workouts and they have been focused on ball handling this off season and there's been slight improvements as he's now forced to bring the ball up more.
He cant really get to his spots consistently . Again it has nothing to do with his height more of his position in the next level and gilas. He needs to be a wing and be able to be a secondary ball handler. In the uaap level . How many of his drives have been created by his handle?

Have you watched the first two games? He was taking both bigs and small guards off the dribble to hit threes in the NU games alone. lol

i said drives not 3’s . Creating stepback 3’s as a second option or third option playing next to imports and NP. Isnt ideal To take those type of shots you would need to have the ball a lot to have a feel .

Again his first 2 games there was probably only like 3 instances where he made a finish in traffic of a drive. Let alone of his own creation via dribble pen. By handling the ball and getting into the paint and putting two on the ball is where he can make his play making skills shine. All of the best assist guys and playmakers live in the paint and play off the defenses collapsing on them.

You said he's unable to create shots off the dribble which has been proven to be false. So now you're trying to discredit his made baskets? He practices and makes them. Why would a shot he practices not be ideal?

I mean by creating shots , to be quality shots. Theres not a single coach who would drop a play for a wing to take a stepback 3 unless you’re the celtics . Im not trying to discredit made baskets im just saying he needs to improve his handles to be able to have a complete game at the next level. He made a step back 3 against latvia but was terrible at all other facets because he didnt have the confidence to do anything else. Also stepbacks are more of a footwork thing than a handles thing.

That was months ago and it was a small sample size albeit against tougher competition. We're looking at his progress in the UAAP. I'm certain he'll get even better with his work ethic.

During that crucial moment against NU where he consecutively scored, he attacked the rim for a layup. The higher level he plays in, I think his one-handed push shot will be more useful than going all the way to the rim. He gets good ball control with those big hands.

Most of the time, driving to the rim is about who can get "lower." It's easier to blow by defenders if you can get your shoulders lower than theirs. Since KQ is big for our standards where we have short players in the perimeter, he isn't blowing by people with ease. Backing down these smaller players or just rising over them is more efficient. When they do put a bigger guy on him, he usually has the ability to blow by them.

His handles are not elite though. That's why I think best fit for him is a system that doesn't over-dribble. Systems that use movement without the ball and passing which is one of his forte.

                        • Crazy ending on that NU game, sucks that they didnt show the replay of that last foul since the nu bench were obvioisly reacting negatively to it while being shown. And when it seems like NU was gonna be screwed again by the basketball gods, here comes pasaol missing his first 2 fts haha. Dude need to inherit his big bro's confidence.

The sample size of Two uaap games and three FIBA games isn’t that far apart . Given reps and mins.

It’s just that his role moving forward wil be closer to Fiba.

Yup , i guess that’s the difference . He was too good for the UAAP last year . He can get away with things here but once the margins get smaller with ball handling and creating . i’m not sure if he’s improved enough. That he can be a secondary creator and initiator of offense from the perimeter .

No official statement by NU but according to naveen, its a serious knee injury that may sideline him for the rest of the season.
