  • If only ADMU made 90% of their FT (which they should have) they be leading this game. How unfortunate but still amazing how they can keep it up against a championship caliber team.

    • The battle between the frontlines of UP and DLSU will be a joy to watch. hehe

      • QMB with 18 rebounds. He will be a problem for any team.

        • Yeah, UP will live and die by Cagulangan. They do not have a solid back up for him. Felicilda is not it and Fortea is not a playmaker. Alarcon has stagnated.

I don’t know if I’m more impressed with Ateneo’s play or less impressed with UP’s.

He played against an Ateneo team with one of the weakest frontlines though. I’d like to see him go up against DLSU or even UE with Momowei.

Balogun and ong, their 2 tallest players played a combined 11+ minutes

              • I think Ateneo is one solid bigman away for sure final 4 contention. Still I'm impressed with the grit of the team. I want to see more minutes for Bahay and Espina, they're not shy tho. UP is big, but I'm sad for Alter. He improved a lot during pre-season tournament, but with the arrival of QMB expect him to ride the bench more often.

From the preseason, rebounding is one of his biggest strengths for sure, I think though people should expect big scoring games from him, he might have 1 or 2 games scoring 20+ but I think he’ll average around 10ppg or something close

                  • Up's competent and quick bigger players at 345 clearly bothered ateneo. For the first time, i saw ateneo unbelievably just desperately trying not to be crushed by, of all teams, up.

However, up's guards suck. Smarter coaches can still use this obvious vulnerability. If dlsu's guards are not much better, they will have problems retaining their title. Up's 345s are much better than in previous years. Qmb easily got 18 rebounds just by patiently hanging around. Up should use the qmb and alter combo more often.

Lopez will still be the big difference. Up can ddo with him as his drives and humiliating power dunks cant be stopped without fouling. He is both a foul magnet and a good passer. He alone can initiate the creation of at least a stable10-point lead. Lopez is the living proof that powerful bigs with superior ball control is superior to the seyers' bansotized ddo. Lopez and belmonte can productively ddo.

No guards of up -- even cagulangan --can drive or shoot well in traffic. But if up used instead bayla, briones and its other competent 6'4-6'6 players to defend and attack hard point guards as small as bahay, they would easily have won by 20 over ateneo. The difference between this up team and earlier avatars is that they are competent enough that i found them boring for the first time. The best teams are naturally boring because they can make other teams look like trapped fish: the opposition can vigorously struggle but not do much else.

Ateneo got an unusual 40 FTAs thanks to ugly calls. Ball just don’t lie

QMB averaged similar numbers in Taiwan and against KBL teams.

they don’t need him to replicate the same numbers against DLSU anyway. UP’s bigs outplayed DLSU with and without Phillips this offseason

what would you expect, 27 year old Cagulangan would be feasting on these boys. How in the world he is still playing in the UAAP. because of technicalty that the pandemic was was not counted on his years after High school. All his batchmates are now pro

                            • Felicilda and cagulangan are too short even for the modern uaap. But cagulangan is up's championship anting-anting. Cagulangan is also a bit on the overconfident side. Thats okay though because, up's other guards are not paragons for building confidence.

Up will actually be more dangerous in the second round. After 7 games, they can SWOT analyze the other teams already. And then their physical advantages can be used with greater force.

                              • How’d Admu allow NU, UST ,UP and DLSU to have two eligible FSA’s better than there’s. They have backups who would dominate their fsa poor planning on their part .
