For the stars (for recent examples, think of Tamayo and KQ), it probably won't affect them, specially if they do decide to transfer early. There is a good chance pro offers (local or overseas) comes early, so I doubt they plan to play out all five (5) years anyway. So if they want to transfer early and just play two more years instead of three, losing that one extra year might not matter (both for the player and team).

For the late bloomers, say they have their breakout year by their 2nd year or 3rd year, this rule might actually work. Think of Remogat. Under the new rule, he'd be a one and done for UP instead of having two years. It'll not prevent such transfers 100%, but it'll deter its fair share.

For those stuck on the bench, this would suck. Either they continue with the current team, or go to NCAA. As mentioned already, Seven would be a great example. He could potentially may have a lane with UP given 4 more years of eligibility, or with an NCAA team (3 years?), though I doubt he goes to another UAAP team.

It'll have some effect to an extent, but I doubt to the extent that the UAAP supposedly intends to.
This. If their goal is to stop hoarding or pirating, it aint gonna happen. Thats why them doing this is pointless imo. Itll just do more harm than good.

Ashton and sj moore dodged the bullet by transferring to the ncaa
If you are a role player with middling PBA prospects, the NCAA is the way to go.

True, and its much more safer/stable to be a role player in the pba

superstar uaap athletes usually have a hard tim transitioning as a role player (from ferrer, belo, maierhoffer et al)

          • At this point and with the current roster of their respective teams I think Luis Pablo at Seven Gagate would be better off it they go back to playing in the NCAA.

            • Wow. If Amos is included that's really messed up.

I hated his move, but making it retroactively affect someone after they did it is truly unethical.

              • Seven should start considering his options, I would not be surprised if UP suddenly announces the recruitment of Sage Tolentino after QMB leaves. haha

The Green and White are doing their best in the hopes that Sage Tolentino doesn't end up in Diliman.

                  • Tbh This move can be adjusted to players like Alao who hasn’t played uaap ball. It can just be for players who’ve played. It’s an easy fix

Unpopular opinion but I really don't get the Gagate hype. Was he really a can't miss prospect prior to college? From my limited knowledge, it would seem Pablo is the better guy. Even during their lone year together in UP, Pablo was getting in the rotarion (albeit limited minutes) while Gagate was more of a garbage time player.

Gagate is taller and more talented but Pablo has a higher motor and more physical. As a big those skills are more important

                          • Regardless of whether one agrees with this rule or not, it's absolutely wrong to make the effectivity of this retroactive. This is something like putting a 100% tax on buying a car and then making the effective date retroactive.

It's a total abomination. Smells like a lawsuit again.

Or, and I don't know if this is possible, add qualifiers? Like this only applies if you played X amount of minutes/games/whatever means of measurement within the previous Y seasons.

Kinda complicated, but that would kind of deter star players from changing schools, but would allow those stuck in the bench to find better opportunities.

Not just a lawsuit, but Pia Cayetano has threatened a Senate inquiry.
