Femi Edu is nowhere near his kuya not just in size, but also skill-wise. Only thing he’s got now is raw athleticism and teachability. Even in an Amos-less Ateneo he won’t get that much minutes this year over guys like Bongo and Lazaro. He didn’t make the UP tryout too.

NU for imo is the best UAAP team not named DLSU or UP. They got a tall frontline, couple of quality guards in enriquez, garcia and jumamoy and good sized wings in manansala, figeroa, reyes and yu. If they had a better fsa or an alpha like player, this team would be a legitimate contender for the incoming season.

The defense is there, but the shooting just isn’t. Could use a looot of work. Has enough IQ to PG, too, but seems like he’s used to taller defenders, he needs tighter handles against small, quick, pesky defenders.

Same thoughts. They’ve been underwhelming in the crucial late-season games because despite their deep roster and good coaching, they just don’t have a true star. The inconsistent Baclaan just wasn’t it, Malonzo too.

Figueroa is their closest thing to an alpha, mentality and developmentally-wise. But I’m looking at Jumamoy, he has the most potential to be a true star, if he can take a leap.

Tebol Garcia has the talent to be a starter on any UAAP team, and adds another shot manufacturer.

their frontline ain’t shabby too. Padrones and especially Palacielo are low key good, and can hold their own even against Mike Phillips.

My only problem with baclaan is that he's just too small at 5'7. Put an athletic but someone way bigger he'll have a hard time creating his own shots for sure. With the way napa runs his team, they'll be better off with pass first point guard in enriquez that can spread the floor but also make shots when needed, same goes for both jumamoy and garcia. As figeroa, i agree, for me he'll be the biggest x factor for them this season, same with jumamoy, they would need to take a leap to fill in points that baclaan used to make for them. As for their bigs, their good in a sense that they move around the floor well, and does a great job reading the defense so wether they need to kick out or pound the ball in, they usually make the right calls. Besides the fsa, padrones, palacielo and even gulapa, all are 6'6 and above. Defensively they are stocky so your usual uaap bigs even the taller ones wont have an easier time going against them in the paint and their mobility will make it harder naman for the opposing teams' slashers.

They do have an intriguing team. UST also looks like they may surprise some people.

No news on him spcifically yet, but I did hear Sean Alter has been doing well since QMB came along, looks like na-challenge. At the rate Alter’s been improving since the start of the offseason, he just might lock down a starting spot at the 4. That guy’s improvement rate is just impressive.

I’ll put my money on NU locking down the third spot. FEU and UST battlng for 4th.

UST has some spacing issues. Their main guys are all slashers or post-up players. Crisostomo has good motor but is just a major non-factor on offense. Manaytay and Mahmood can shoot but they aren’t at the level where you have to really respect them. That makes it easier for teams to clog the lane against Cabanero.

There’s also fit issues IMO. Cabanero is the kind of star who needs the ball to contribute, and that takes away from the rhythm of Paranada, while Padrigao’s talent isn’t maximized.

Speaking of Paranada, he’s been in a funk and hasn’t had a good game yet in a UST uniform. UST seems to play slower than he’s used to.

Yes. NU’s bigs are stocky and quick and while none of them are rim protectors, it’s just hard to post up or slash or rebound against them. While their helpside defense is lacking, it’s their strong side defense that’s top notch. Add to that the discpline at which Coach Jeff runs his defense.

No wonder Jeff was NR when Baclaan left. Enriquez is just more valuable to his schemes. I just wish Jeff went to his bigs more. And Figueroa, he just needs a better 3 and he’ll be fine.

They can also go more to Tebol on the pick and roll with those wide bodied bigs.

Jumamoy can 2 guard for now. He could be a lefty Abadiano on steroids in his 2nd year.

That's a good thing because last year Phillips destroyed UP inside. Alter was just fouling and fouling Phillips and getting outrebounded. More than Quiambao, it was Phillips that was UP's biggest headache. If QMB is better than Phillips then UP gets the title. Lopez has shown that he can disrupt the rhythm of KQ.

Alter probably is playing inspired because of Thea Gagate.

Yup thats and what the fsa is for, the rim protection, while they're not that solid both are 6'10 and decent naman. And having both wide bigs along with them makes life easier for them on defense. As for figeroa dude has splod 3 already, made a couple againsy benilde the other day siguro its more about the consistency na lang. He becoming a great 3 level scorer. Not to mention his defense is also underrated.

Yes haha, Enriquez has been a long time favorite of jeff, he was one of the loyal ones that stayed when the great bullpups exodus happened. Imo it seemed like he wanted to play enriquez more but team was just too loaded at the guards then, lalo na they also had casinillo pa. And when it comes to baclaan, he cant really play both together as both are well below 6ft.

And i agree while nu is a solid 3rd for now. Ust and feu should compete for the 4th spot whith ust gaining an edge due to their size and key guys. As for cabanero, i think he's fitting well padrigao at the point, while he needs the ball more to create his own shots, i think that was more of a necessity for him in the last couple of years due to ust not having a great playmaker. With padrigao, he's having an easier time finding shots. It all matter of both co existing in whatever system ust is running. As paranada, coaching staff should just let him play his game since he's designated naman as the 6th man or the one leading the 2nd unit. They shouldnt force him to play pg lmao haha.

                            • If QMB played 5 years in US, then he shouldn’t be allowed to play in the UAAP for another year. UP was able to get away with Cagulangan playing 5 seasons already, I hope the board will not allow QMB to play.

He’s the best center prospect the NT has locally
