You are combining Season 87 and Season 88 eligibles.
Plus there is a reason why Pablo transferred to DLSU despite a larger pool. Its not a pure numbers game. Its about rotation spots, who you are up against and how long you have to wait. Money aside obviously

This is what ticks me off, honestly. In Goldwin's era, no one other than Carl has moved on from college basketball within their first three seasons in UP. Spencer moved on after four, and Zav, Ricci, and Cansino exhausted their eligibility. Others like Lina, RC Calimag, and Pablo transferred.
For me, recruiting blue-chippers at the rate UP and La Salle do is OK only if the FIBA-eligible blue-chippers develop at a good rate, meaning they get called up to at least the training pool, or they're good enough to go pro early, whether the PBA or abroad. Kaso mo, ayun nga. In college ball, we don't have a tradition of letting players go pro early.
Teams have to figure out how to develop while winning.
When last season started, I mentioned that UP's problem will be how to keep the players sharp/focused when they were routinely blowing out teams. Because of being so stacked, Gold was spreading out the playing time too thin to too many players. Starting five wasn't necessarily the best five...that's the sign of coaches appeasing egos. It's hard to build chemistry and peak at the right moment doing that. UAAP season being so short is also a detriment, if the season was much longer being so stacked would be advantageous.
And now, despite how last season transpired, they're doubling down and getting even more stacked.
Another factor is not winning chips. It's easier for a player to leave early on a winning note, especially if you're instrumental in winning a chip. If UP won last season, I think Lopez, Cagu and maybe Alarcon moves on.

Lost in this conversation is how many graduating students UP has this season. Which is only Cagulangan. Basically things only get more crowded next season.

That's brutal, at least he'll still keep his full 5 years of eligibility even when comes back. Hope he uses this time improve his outside shooting, especially now that his athleticism should be greatly affected.
