Yes. Tumaneng is a 6'8 from new zealand. Adamson also has 6'7 project perez since last year. Their better scoring "big" last year was 6'3 sf carlo bonzalida.

How bansot coach seyer keeps missing young bigs with some skills is as amazing as a blind sighted man. Putting your friends' kids in the national team is a seyer coaching specialty.

Three big boys from adamson alone. It is simply impossible that other big schools didnt have usable bigs. Nu, feu and ust do not have high school bigs for u16 and u18???

The bigs from FEU are in the lineup already, Cabonillas and Burgos, though Pre was their main big star in that jrs team. In NU, I think this is where Kurl Figueroa enters, also in the lineup. As per UST, Esteban and Manding but Manding is more of like a wing.

The only thing I am not really amuse is the inclusion of Marc Esperanza, the 5'11 guy. I mean the guy was awful in that SEABA tournament. Besides, the team already have Andy (who will probably handles the ball 90% of the time lol), then there's Ludovice a stable back up PG.

I think his slot should of be given to a project big, like the recently cut Castillejos, or Prince Carino, the supposedly member of U17 WC team and will lead the U16 team next year.

      • I hope they would qualify for the U19 WC because it would open a lot of opportunity to a whole new set mixture of prospects from the U17 batch to this U18 batch.

Paul Diao and Edryn Morales with another 1 year of playing in the US could be a big improvement for them. Then we don't know if James Sanderson would be a big name by next year considering how fast he is getting D1 offers right now.

Then there's our locals who could pop out of nowhere like Carl Tamayo in that U19 team.

Given they are available, would be exciting.

Then there's the chemistry over talent ideology from the coach so, nevermind.

        • No. What i was trying to say is that there are at least a hundred big schools in the philippines. And there are lots of talented players. Fajardo and slaughter started in visayan schools that most metro manilans dont even know about. I would say most are simply wasted because they were not discovered and trained better early enough. Ive travelled to many mindanao schools before, and i often saw some who played as good as uaap players.

The pbs should really have regional tryouts as most parents and players dont want to study in far manila. Like many filams actually. Yes i know that this is almost impossible as the pbs would rather be a client of the donated resources of the pba. But u16/u18 selections of luzon vs visayas vs mindanao is practical enough, and the triad of coaches can fairly select players to be coached by the designated nt coach.

To be fair to Perez, who stands a legitimate 6'7" with a 6'10" wingspan, he has shown significant improvement. Besides being more athletic than Tumaneng, the Fil-Italian kid can also shoot from the outside. I believe he was supposed to be included in the SEABA U18 team but got injured.

Now everyone sees why Perez made it over the project Tumaneng. Coach Dave already posted here long time ago not to get excited and hyped over Tumaneng. As we can see in the last UAAP Jrs that Perez got more playing over Tumaneng.

I chalk this up to Levels. Many do not understand the concept of levels (although it really is difficult unless one has a reference point or experience it firsthand). They see players of the same height and think that's all there is to it, or see a prospect doing well in a video not understanding the level of the competition matters.

And most hypeman vloggers are guilty of this as well.

                • So basically, Josh Reyes will be fired if they won't get qualified for the U19 WC. On the other hand, if he manage to lead the team into the U19 WC, he will definitely stay. What a dillema, lol.

Hot. Seat. Coach Josh Reyes is under the microscope now more than ever, as Gilas Pilipinas Youth competes in the #FIBAU18AsiaCup.

There’s a strong chance we won’t make it as the team isn’t very strong.

We made the U19 WC in 2018 because of Kai and Edu.

I dislike a results based Gilas, I would rather Gilas youth be measured by how many players they elevate to the senior team.

Yeah, I don’t think there has ever been a Philippine U18 team that made it to the U19 World Cup, except for Kai's batch.

Statistically speaking, the players who performed well in the Youth World Cup are often the ones who transition to the senior team, like Kai, Dave, and Carl. AJ would have also done well in the U19 World Cup if not for his injury.

In the U17 2014 team, it was Nieto who at least made some appearances for a Tab-led Gilas. As for the 2023 U17 team, Kiefer Alas could have done some damage against other teams if not for that unfortunate injury. Morales might have a chance if he improves his point guard skills, similar to Dwight Ramos. Ludovice could make a Gilas appearance when all of our high-caliber point guards are unavailable. Daja has good fundamentals as a big, but being 6'4" might not be enough.

So having good results while figuring out who will makes the senior team at the same time is possible.

                        • From jmh, sporting chance, philstar.com.

"The only carryover from the FIBA U17 World Cup roster is 5-10 Joaquin Ludovice of UST. Others in the cast are 6-1 Andy Gemao of Royal Crown School, Toronto, 6-3 Earl Medina of Adamson, 6-8 Allen Perez of Adamson, 5-10 Mark Esperanza of Adamson, 6-5 Wilhelm Cabonilas of FEU, 6-5 Marc Burgos of FEU, 6-5 Charles Esteban of UST, 6-2 Carl Manding of UST, 6-5 Johnkurl Figueroa of NU, 6-4 Drei Lorenzo of UE and 5-11 Jericho Santos of Chaminade Prep School, Missouri."

The recent past roster chosen by seyer was definitely garbage, based on the complete overhaul of the nt. And this overhaul took only a couple of months! And only within metro manila schools. The pbs should have u16 and u18 teams from luzon, visayas and mindanao. You dont leave dumbf*ck coaches like seyer to build a deep-selection group like a national team.

And as will be eternally true, talent, athleticism and PER game capabilities are the ONLY SELECTION CRITERIA. "Chemistry" is a minor add-on, and was never a player selection criterion on this planet, except the seyers' planet.

If the seyers were hr managers, they will be asking employment candidates, "may pang chemistry ka ba"? Yes, that kind of moronic question, because the main hr question must be "what evidenced abilities do you have now that solves urgently necessary work priorities for our success?" See, if you ask the right questions, you have better chances of getting much more qualified people.

                          • no andy gemao for u18 asiad

The injury bug has hit Gilas Pilipinas Youth once again as Andy Gemao will not be able to see action in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup 2024 in Amman, Jordan. The high-flying Gemao, who led the Philippines with 29 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists in their final game of the SEABA Qualifiers against Indonesia […]

                            • Well, all of the plays were designed for him, so this is not surprising. The team also had no reserves; they could have gotten some help from there.

It sucks because these circumstances could have been avoided if the team had a reliable system that wasn't just reliant on one player, as this causes fatigue to that player. It's similar to the Kiefer Alas incident.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time.
