Let's start hyping this kid until the inevitable criticism from forumers here if he doesn't pan out. If this kid doesn't make it to the NBA by 21, I fully expect Pinoy forumers here to be on full-blown hate mode. Discuss.

I’ll say his playmaking and passing need work, he makes bad inaccurate passes and the wrong reads sometimes when he tries to play pg. Also his shooting needs work.

Heard he has the same BBIQ as Larry Bird. As good as Jordan. Better than recent lottery picks. The only reason he isn't on any mock drafts is because Givony et al are biased. /S

I at least hope he has better management than our previous prospects

The kid has been developing well so far. He first got noticed in the U16 team IRC. Pretty decent passing but became a black hole once he put the ball on the floor.

The more notable thing about him though was his transformation in the pandemic lull. The kid with probly his father and friends help did a workout program focused on increasing his explosiveness so he could dunk. And he did.

In the season that followed everything combined well for him. Je grew a bit, added some muscle and the explosiveness. He had skills before but his athletic development made him one of the best guards in HS here.

So the kid does a history of development. Not sure if he has it in him to be decent in the US. I mean 6’0 guards are not typically the guys we send abroad. But he has some potential. He is a trailblazer of some sorts. Lets see how he does.

I just hope you don't curse this kid even if doesn't make to the NBA. Pinoy basketball fans have a tendency to dismiss prospects just because they don't reach the NBA.

I won't expect much but I'd consider it a success if this Gemao kid develops and becomes better than Scottie, The Blur, CJ Perez, Pringle, Romeo, or any one of our active top guards in their prime. It won't be a cake walk to surpass that bar but considering the kind of head start he has, it can be done.

Judge him when he turns 28 lol.

I think the key to keeping the OA over-hypers/over-criticizers away is to have no video. That way they'll have a hard time making content just like the case for Panopio and other pinoy kids who tried US high school (Duremdes bros, Anonuevo, etc).

But if Gemao wants the spotlight (there's a possibility he does) then he better be mentally prepared if it goes south.

I just realized that Japeth, Kobe P and Kai all had pba fathers.

So if we liken it to immigrants, they were first generation immigrants while Gemao is a bona-fide immigrant. Maybe his hunger might prove to be the difference.

Dont forget BRP and Keifer. the five are 2nd gen and had lived a privelaged life. While Gemao, as you said, had to fight for his roster spot

You're right BRP and Kiefer too. Self-made guys are built different. Hopefully, he has the missing ingredient.
