    • I just wonder how much did Standhardinger ask from SBP during those times he played for Gilas? Marami-rami na rin yatang beses si Standhardinger naglaro sa Gilas.

For the ineligibles however and particularly those without strong connections to the country, I can just imagine playing for the country without any compensation is not attractive to them.
How about the Fil-Fors in the UAAP and NCAA?

I think the PBA rule before did not affect the student athletes as much. It migh have been intentional to encourage Filfors, to go the school route. I dont know their motivations but the way say the Philipps brothers learned Tagalog and used them interviews speaks a lot on how they value connecting with their fans. They have built connections here. The one and dones or 2 and dones probably had thr PBA in mind. They however have built a relationship with fans and their schools in their short stay in college. Also, unlike a Mikey Williams, these guys havent proven anything yet. No matter how good they are in college, they have to pay their dues.

There is a risk of getting D league level Filfors as NPs. Those guys can go to Europe. So unless they really have strong ties here I dont think they will embrace representing the country in minor tourneys.

I think if Kouame won't be available, we could tap Standhardinger as our NP in February. Yes I know Standhardinger has already retired from national team service after the 2023 SEA Games but I think if Long Hair ask him to heed another call of national team duty, most likely Standhardinger is not going to turn down Long Hair's request.
I think Ange might be available. However, his team end their first phase on Feb. 16 (Feb 17 Philippine time). Realistically, I think he only has 3 days of practice time, since the first game against Hong Kong would be on the 22nd, and he might have to come straight from Chartres.

I don't know if PBA players wud be made available during the February window, but if PBA players won't be available, I think we can still form a solid team composed mostly of B-league plus Kouame & Abando & perhaps a few college standouts.

B-league players would be Kai, AJ Edu, Carl Tamayo, Dwight Ramos, Thirdy & Kiefer Ravena, RJ Abarrientos & maybe Rayray Parks.

College players could be Mason Amos, Kevin Quiambao, Francis Lopez, CJ Cansino.

It's OK, Since he knows his teammates well, and the first game of Gilas is against Hong Kong, that even U18 Of Gilas can beat HK w/o a sweat.. They can treat HK a tune up game for their match up against much stronger Taiwan team...

                • It would be nice to see the trio of Kai,Ange and AJ on the paint on the same time.I hope Balti plays this time, with the fast improving Tamayo in there too Gilas has 5 bigs in the lineup who are 6'8 and above in a long while.

                  • Makes me wished that Kamaka Hepa didn't made it to the Zastal Zielona lineup and went to PBA instead,he's another guy they can make an exemption in the future.

Kai, Edu, Kouame, Baltazar & Tamayo frontline is definitely the tallest, the most flexible & most versatile frontcourt Philippine basketball ever had in history.

And these 5 players have 1 thing in common, none of them is playing in the PBA.

incredibly versatile on both ends, and not cones on defense (for the most part)

Like what Magic and Bird always say, they wouldn't be as good as they are if they didn't constantly play against each other.

These very tall players need to play against talented guys their size (or bigger) to maximize their potential. It will be interesting to see Balti's progression if he continues what he's doing.

                          • From the way he played for Gilas in the pocket tournament in China last August & the World Cup, as well as with the way he's playing in the B-league right now, I really didn't expect AJ Edu to be this good, especially in offense. It seems hindi nawala yung offensive skills nya as well as his confidence with his scoring capabilities after all those knee injuries he sustained as well as despite being relegated into a mere role playing big man at Toledo University.

                            • I think by Asian basketball standards, AJ Edu is quick & mobile enough to play as a 4 offensively & defensively.

At 6-foot-10, he's a tall "four" by Asian basketball standards.

I totally agree with you but the outlier in that group is Baltazar. As of now he is in a even more inferior envrionment in the MPBL, he only has to contend with 6'4" to 6'5" flat footed guys guarding him and no one can really challenge him. I think he is the closest player to an AJ Edu among our homegrowns but he is picking up bad habits playing in the MPBL
