  • New Zealand basketball has replaced Pero Cameron as the Tall Black's head coach & will have a new head coach in the coming 2nd window in Novermber. This only means one thing - New Zealand will be on transition when it faces Gilas in November.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

I can't help but be excited on the trio of Kai Sotto, Junmar Fajardo & AJ Edu at the center position with Gilas in the coming 2nd window of the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifier this November. That would be a formidable frontline.
Hope Kai and AJ are healthy by the November 21 window. They are crucial pieces for us, especially defensively.

      • Would guys still consider Japeth to be part of Gilas if he continues his stellar offensive plays this year? I don't know what happened to him, maybe fatherhood, but his offensive game has been phenomenal this comm cup. Unfortunately, it took him almost 15 years to have this kind of a season. Could have been the face of Ph basketball and our version of KG/TD/CB.

Gray area. He still plays in the PBA where, even at 37, there's not a lot of 6'9 players at all so his production will always be inflated. It's not a knock on him personally, but being a unicorn at the PBA doesn't mean he'll do anything special against the top Asian teams... buti nalang it's just New Zealand that Gilas has to contend with until the actual FIBA Asia Cup. I'd still take a healthy AJ Edu in 2025 and beyond than a soon-to-be 38 Japeth.

          • I think we should stay away to the mindset of "andian naman si Japeth eh" just in case Kai, AJ and JMF suddenly becomes sick

yes we do recognize his talent and contribution to the program no argument there

but the program must focus towards young blood and grassroot development

Argentina's Luis Scola(now retired) is a different animal and we cannot compared the dude to ours

as for CTC's strong stand that he wll stick to his original 12 as part of his 4 year program up to 2028 LA Olympics

and will only allows Japs and Mason from time to time, well let's respect that and just enjoy the ride

but from 2028 and beyond, we do hope our frontline may be improve and deeper height-wise,

            also age-wise.

That's one key player who has the opportunity to rest before the window.
