I think if Kouame won't be available, we could tap Standhardinger as our NP in February. Yes I know Standhardinger has already retired from national team service after the 2023 SEA Games but I think if Long Hair ask him to heed another call of national team duty, most likely Standhardinger is not going to turn down Long Hair's request.
    Motor Mike?

He'll be 38 by then, though. And he's a guard. A better option would be a big or a wing.

        • How about Stephen Holt? Though he's a natural point guard, I think he can play as a shooting guard with Gilas. Remember, he's 6-foot-3/6-foot-4. That's a good size 2-guard in Asian level basketball.

Against Taipei and HK for a two-game series? He’ll do.

BGR is also a good option.

            • I'll go with Holt as our NP. We'll need Holt to neutralize Taiwan's athletic 2-guard Mohammed Al Bachir Gadiaga a. k. a. "Abbasi" and those deadly shooters of Taiwan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxZWbRnlYFc

Instead of Pringle who is ineligible, I'll give that spot to Schonny Winston who is said to be FIBA eligible.

Oh, crap, this is the qualifiers thread. I thought this was OQT. Sorry.

Yeah, he and BGR will do.

I think we can call up the Japan/SoKor boys along with a few college guys while we're at it. Develop chemistry.

                • I think Stephen Holt has a slightly better credentials than Justin Brownlee as the former has played as an import in among the highest pro basketball league in the world outside of the NBA. Among the pro leagues Holt has played is Spain's ACB or Liga Endesa , which is considered among the top (if not the top) professional basketball leagues in Europe. He also played as an import in Australia-NBL which we all know is a high level competition.

I would like to try him as our NP for the Asia Cup qualifiers. We have to take note, Holt is a legit Filipino citizen, its just that he wasn't able to secure Phi passport prior to his 16th birthday that is why he is considered FIBA ineligible.

You said that he has more credentials than JB… that means will ask also “to the moon” incentives to play for Gilas.. for sure he will not play for free or just little amount…and the schedule will be against minnow Hong Kong and mid tier Taiwan… no need to parade all star line up… just invite young players who already have FIBA experience (Amos, Lopez and Chiu) and some overseas players who are willing and available…

Not all players are like Mikey Williams na talagang mukhang pera.

The thing is many Filfors dont actually have strong connections to the Philippines. Let's face it, they are only going here because of the money. Why would they play for the country without any compensation? The eligible Filfors at least have the incentive of qualifying for the B league. For the ineligibles however and particularly those without strong connections to the country, I can just imagine playing for the country without any compensation is not attractive to them.

There is nothing wrong what Mikey is doing… he is doing his advantage in terms of leverage since he already proved he can deliver championships… Holt will do the same for sure… he will not come here without leverage that he will get money that he wants… as for gilas, we don’t need that mercenary fil-foreign players… Ramos can do already what Holt or Mikey are doing, but the difference is Ramos will not ask big money to play, but it doesn’t mean both Holt and Mikey are villains here… What gilas needs are willing w/o any conditions…
