The reason is Newsome is quicker and has better laterals. The Taipei guy could not get separation even with screens. Fast forward 4th quarter, Oftana comes back, Taipei guy hits a 3 again in Oftana's face. In this game it didn't matter because our front court was too big. If this were a closer game against a similar type of player Oftana might be benched in the end game. I'm not a fan of Newsome. He's an inaccurate 3 pt shooter. But ever since the Asian games finals when he did the best defense against RHJ I've realized he is our best perimeter defender. I'm not sure why you're making this your hill to die in.

This is where speed and quick laterals factor in,specially if the opponent has a deadly 3 pt shooter but not too quick to get to his spot, quick defenders are needed in Gilas for sure, both AJ and Ange were actuall quick big men to secure the perimeter, even Balti in good shape can bother the perimeter shooters, they gonna need this type of defenders, since CTC did experiment with Kai trying to close in and it never worked in their favor.

        • Here is a little blow by blow summary of what Snow discussed in his podcast.

-allegedly the guy who took the video was with Malonzo
-according to Snow, the person who punched JM is from ADMU with a background in MMA & sent fillers to spin to give his side of the incident
-allegedly the fight started when the smaller individual commented on JM's/black's love for fried chicken lol, which JM took offense to and threw a sucker punch.

What I don't get is why some of us Pinoys like to joke about racial stereotypes. Are they ignorant of the fact that all racist whites/euro/east asian perceive us the same way they perceive blacks?

yeah so? that doesn't make newsome better than him lol

what about newsome letting the hk guards run berserk over him?

cone knows better than you boy and even the analysts _ both local and international - are impressed with oftana's defense and have said it on air too

besides newsome can't even defend oftana in the pba so stop with your fetish that newsome is the best perimeter defender in the team

still doesn't make the case for oftana being a bad defender, shot was contested and he made it, would've been a different story if he lost oftana in a shuffle and had an open shot

a taiwan player also hit a contested shot in dwight's face to beat the buzzer - does that make dwight a bad or lesser defender?

rds is just salty because his boytoy newsome is not getting a starting role

lol rds probably forgot that newsome got raped by the chinese wings and it was oftana's deflection and steal that set up gilas' winning play

              rds is probably a taenean

Ive seen a lot of drunk fights in bgc that started due to some drunk cono shouting the N word at fil-ams, there was even a time that we have to restrain my friend (fil-am) who was taunted with racist words while @ bgc

Marcial is a tool. Do they really believe that they can still lie in this day and age where everyone has a smartphone. Also why would Malonzo's "friend" upload a video of him getting beat up?

                    This story is getting weird.

I dont remember Newsome much in the other Asian games. As I said the guy is not perfect. But who was the main defender against RHJ in the finals and also scored on the other end? Your saying Oftanas good plays as if they equal to Newsomes finals performance. There are difference in contests. I dont care if Oftana was there to challenge but he gave his man space to shoot. For a home grown with mostly Asian genes Oftana is decent defensively. I would say Navarro is better but he is not in the pool. Since the Asian games finals Newsomes defense has been his calling card. But he is a bit older and might be short for tall wings. I am actually looking at Malonzo potentially for taller wings.

I am just writing what I saw. We will see against better competition who is right.

Add to that the fact that they are famous athletes, they have a target on their backs. Certain segments of the population hate them.

This also happened to Jeron Teng and the Torreses when they got stabbed in BGC. Guys taunted them into a fight.

That's why celebs can't just go out in public like normal people.

                        • So where are the la salle lawyers haha..I thinknits really good for Malonzo to file a case..
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                          1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

                          • Georgia's laterals can be exposed although we can not pass the ball easily thru them.. we need a cs type forward to check shengelia.. carl is built to be a mobile 3 4 ,5.. and quiambao is being developed to bea 1,2 or 3 or iskati position..

dont forget Mac Cardona, though he is a headcase of his own.

Yes, celebs should always have a entourage, especially when booze is involved

Sometimes it's unavoidable. In the case of Teng, they were not drunk and they were not inside a club/bar. They were walking to their car as an entourage when some guy on the street (with hidden knives) said something offensive to Teng's gf (now wife). It's human nature to engage (especially since they had numbers advantage) but sometimes you just have to walk away.

The assailant ended up stabbing Teng just inches away from vital organs. He could have died.
