The fact of the matter is this: take out JB and Kai's production (with Edu and JMF out)... this team might even lose to a Taipei, Kazakhstan, and even a decent team like Bahrain. (get Courtside 1891 Max to see ALL the games) It will take a complete core to get to the World Cup, and I don't see this core still being together after the end of the FIBA Asia Cup. This team was built for the present. By the time the PBA season, B.League, and UAAP for KQ kicks in... so many things can and will happen, that recalling Japeth again won't be enough.
Just recall your statement after 4 years... That is why CTC going into 4 year program, So that they will know each other and not being dependent on just other guys... Pinapangunahan mo agad eh, Nanggaling kanaba sa Future? You can bash CTC if he fails just like Chot in 2027... But for now, You have no right to tell about the current program of CTC because it just only Day 2 of being together..

Iran is fine, They are always like this in every qualifiers... In 2017, They lose to Iraq in WC qualifiers, In 2020, They lose to Syria in Asia cup qualifiers and in 2022 They lose to Kazakhstan.. They are slow starters like Philippines, They are playing in their opponent's level... But when main tournament comes, They beating top teams such as Korea, Japan, Philippines....

Yes, they were beaten by 31 points but you see the skills there from the Mongolians with the way they handle the ball, pass and cut. I say that Mongolia is one naturalized bigman away from putting a decent game with better teams in Asia.

Guam is full of talented players but their system is pulling them down. Like Mongolia, Guamanians have game but they need to elevate their coaching. Their games against China and Japan will be an eye opener for them.

I never would have imagined that I will watch a Thailand-Indonesia game.

You see from these four teams the desire to be competitive - better than seeing teams like Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka playing.
Mongolia is OK, Once Mike Sharavjamst available in their national team and Sanchir is OK again to play (plus they have overseas players who didn't played from Korea and Taiwan), They can competitive again... This is their first match against top Asia/Pacific teams, and with against China, Who are in revenge mode after failed to win the Gold last Asian games... Today's game vs Guam in their home is their virtual "Do or Die" mode, If they lose today, their fairy tale story will come to an end....

To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
          1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

The disallowing of hard fouls when going to the basket. Used to be, when you attack the rim, you will get hit/fouled hard that you won't be able to do it in a consistent basis if you're skinny (unless you're crazy and durable like Iverson). Guys weren't even required to go for the ball, they can use their fouls however they want. Now, the defenders always have to be going for the ball and cannot hit excessively. I think that's a rational change for pba to make.

There are many other rule-changes but that one along with hand-check ban and freedom of movement is the biggest change in the nba.

Now, laterals are so important because you have to defend with your feet. In Asia, I think this is one of the reasons why China is in a decline, their players are so bad laterally (no soccer culture). Would probably be the case with us also if not for our Filfors.

The video didn't really specify why China is bad at laterals. Asians (as we grow taller) are really going to be slower. IMO, playing sports like soccer at an early age can help a bit. It's a sport that is good in developing foot speed and foot agility.

Other skills that soccer enhances is "vision" and more passing. In soccer, passing is essential and you have to be several steps ahead in your mind when you assist. Something China and also us are not known for, while SoKor and Japan is adept.

I mean, you have your perennial top teams like Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Korea, Iran, Lebanon, Philippines and Jordan.

You also have the usual mid-tiers like Taipei, Kazakhstan, Palestine, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iraq.

But the lower-tier teams like Kuwait, UAE, Thailand, Indonesia and India are quite decent.

Even newcomers like Guam and Mongolia are decent. Hong Kong is considered a minnow in this qualifiers.

No more super minnows like Malaysia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka.
This is what I said before… this current format is way way better than the old one… Teams like Saudi, Bahrain, Indonesia, Thailand actively improve their program thru qualifiers due to exposure in these tournaments… the old format limits the opportunity because it was biased thru two regions such as East and West Asian regions, FIBA Asia just give 1 spots for other regions such as SEA, Gulf regions… teams that I mentioned barely qualified for FIBA Asia due to limitations… The only hurdles for these qualifiers are availability of players, especially in the NBA… All of the leagues, even Euroleague already borrow their players to FIBA windows… I hope in the future NBA gives way too… These new format also benefiting other zones… South Sudan came from pre qualifiers all the way to Olympics because of new format, If FIBA sticks to old format, SSD can’t even qualify for afrobasket because of limited slots and opportunities… same goes to Bahamas…

                • Before the new format, Indonesia and Thailand are afraid to Philippines in basketball, now they are ready to our challenge.. they are not afraid to us anymore because of exposure that FIBA gives to them

Simula ng laban, kitang-kita na walang kwenta ang HK (i dunno why y'all give them credit, they got Reid and 2 okay players... that's it. bigyan ba natin ng jacket kasi may fighting spirit? smh) noong 9-0 naisip ko kahit Adamson HS tatalunin ang HK... so anyare?

Now to everyone else who is convinced this is a "4-year program" and not a glorified series of 1-week training window-by-window/tournament-by-tournament fixtures: Start taking names and find out how much of this "12-man core" will be the most-capped by the end of 2027. Hold their assess accountable if Cone picks a team and they're not playing well or not playing at all so instead of going down a man, let's hope the SBP can can actually reward someone who deserves to be in the core even if it means taking out someone else. This way, there's no excuses like getting jet lagged from Japan, just got injured playing here so didn't practice, he's already 39 years old... nothing. The SBP wanted this over a wishlist of eligible players.

By my count, Edu and JMF are down by a game. Both should be healthy by the OQT's. Japeth playing makes this a 13-man pool so far. I don't think Perez should lose his spot yet despite forcing a lot of shots against a bad HK team. Tamayo was the shocktrooper of this game and that's fine since he'll get more FIBA games under his belt.

                        • Lol China... without a dominant bigs like yao, zhizhi and Qi, Yi they are very vulnarable.

and they should get another coach its seems their serbian coach doesnt fit to them.

                            • I believe if Guam has good system, Good coaching plus this core, they can be on conversation with teams like Korea, Iran, China, etc… their talent, especially their top players are very good.. if they install it w/ very good system and coaching then they will be one of the best teams in Asia… Sakit sa mata kasi sistema nila… Panay ISO system…
