Now to everyone else who is convinced this is a "4-year program" and not a glorified series of 1-week training window-by-window/tournament-by-tournament fixtures: Start taking names and find out how much of this "12-man core" will be the most-capped by the end of 2027. Hold their assess accountable if Cone picks a team and they're not playing well or not playing at all so instead of going down a man, let's hope the SBP can can actually reward someone who deserves to be in the core even if it means taking out someone else. This way, there's no excuses like getting jet lagged from Japan, just got injured playing here so didn't practice, he's already 39 years old... nothing. The SBP wanted this over a wishlist of eligible players.

By my count, Edu and JMF are down by a game. Both should be healthy by the OQT's. Japeth playing makes this a 13-man pool so far. I don't think Perez should lose his spot yet despite forcing a lot of shots against a bad HK team. Tamayo was the shocktrooper of this game and that's fine since he'll get more FIBA games under his belt.

Simula ng laban, kitang-kita na walang kwenta ang HK (i dunno why y'all give them credit, they got Reid and 2 okay players... that's it. bigyan ba natin ng jacket kasi may fighting spirit? smh) noong 9-0 naisip ko kahit Adamson HS tatalunin ang HK... so anyare?

First of all, This is CTC’s first FIBA games, technically he coached Philippines before in international games such as SEAG and Asian Games, but that is not under FIBA, but technically he is experienced coach internationally.. another thing, If you are better than CTC then go to SBP office and submit your resume to be the coach… second, Is any team or coach that already perfect their system in their 1st days in their job as head coach? Either National team and Pro clubs…. Even your Tab Baldwin lost their first game against Palestine… So you want results even in the first days as their HC? Last, And you want reserves, everybody here wants (even me) to have reserves in case of injuries or unavailability, But that is already CTC decision, He prefers small group of players but can easily adopt team chemistry in the long run, than having larger pool but no assurance if they will get in the final line up… As for Japeth, He was picked by CTC to help others to assimilate the system… Did your Tab did it to Nietto bros too, Right? Who among here says Nietto bros deserve in the final line up? I remember they were bashed big time here, but no one sees that they are there to help coach Tab to teach his newcomers to easily adopt team chemistry, Same goes to Japeth for CTC… As I said above, if you are better than CTC then go to SBP office and submit your resume…

You couldn't pay me to go there. Expect players to beg off if ever they scheduled some match over there in the future.

Well, The purpose of these Home and Away matches is to connect them to their local fans... Local fans can fill the stadium, especially in Damascus, where Basketball is big there too.... As for players, I think they are safe... No complainants from visiting teams who played there... Even American players who are participating in their respective teams...

              • Am I the only one here who likes the current set of teams participating in this qualifiers?

I mean, you have your perennial top teams like Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Korea, Iran, Lebanon, Philippines and Jordan.

You also have the usual mid-tiers like Taipei, Kazakhstan, Palestine, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iraq.

But the lower-tier teams like Kuwait, UAE, Thailand, Indonesia and India are quite decent.

Even newcomers like Guam and Mongolia are decent. Hong Kong is considered a minnow in this qualifiers.

No more super minnows like Malaysia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka.

                defend

So, Will Artino is not available? Out of the Loop.

The fact of the matter is this: take out JB and Kai's production (with Edu and JMF out)... this team might even lose to a Taipei, Kazakhstan, and even a decent team like Bahrain. (get Courtside 1891 Max to see ALL the games) It will take a complete core to get to the World Cup, and I don't see this core still being together after the end of the FIBA Asia Cup. This team was built for the present. By the time the PBA season, B.League, and UAAP for KQ kicks in... so many things can and will happen, that recalling Japeth again won't be enough.

The true minnows have been flushed out of the pre-qualifiers as early as last cycle and we're left with those who round out a cast for group play. They're either talented but badly coached or well-coached but not so talented. Those who are neither don't belong at the higher tiers. FIBA Asia got it right when they decided to keep the Continental Cup at 16 teams.

Watching the extended highlights of China and Mongolia, you will know that Mongolians have been playing for quite sometime now. Yes, they were beaten by 31 points but you see the skills there from the Mongolians with the way they handle the ball, pass and cut. I say that Mongolia is one naturalized bigman away from putting a decent game with better teams in Asia.

Guam is full of talented players but their system is pulling them down. Like Mongolia, Guamanians have game but they need to elevate their coaching. Their games against China and Japan will be an eye opener for them.

I never would have imagined that I will watch a Thailand-Indonesia game.

You see from these four teams the desire to be competitive - better than seeing teams like Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka playing.

                          • I guess Iran should fire their hc and revamp their program too after barely beating Qatar (a Qatari team without key players) by 2.

                              • New Zealand is beating Hong Kong, as expected, by 27 points - end of the first half.

Gilas cannot afford to be sloppy against New Zealand and Chinese-Taipei the way they did against Hong Kong.
