I just hope that this early yung mga magagaling nating officials sa SBP are already figuring out on who among our Gilas prospects would be available for the qualifying windows of 2025 FIBA Asia Cup. Talking about foresight.

Baka naman hindi alam nitong si Al "Panlinlang" Panlilio that our Gilas boys in the Japan B-league would be available for those qualifying windows as the B-league has been taking a 2-week break everyttime a window qualifier is held so as to allow the Japanese national team to train & play in the qualifiers. An averaged Pinoy IBNer knows that the B-league takes a brief break in every window qualifier so as to give way to the Japanese national team's training & participation.

The 2nd matter worth asking is: Are the PBA Gilas prospects available for this qualifying windows?

3rd matter is: who will be the Gilas Head coach?

Dapat sa ngayon palang pinag iisipan na ni Panlilio yung mga bagay na yan. Hindi yung kailan malapit na yung qualifying window saka parang magpaplano & mag isip.

Itigil na kasi yang usad pagong na yan

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Giannis already answered us on another thread. B league boys will always be available. no need to plan. I guess thats what SBP will do as well. thing is, not all of the Japan, and even Korean, players will be used. i highly doubt LH will allow Slaughter wear the flag again if he can help it. can SBP atleast identify an interim coach and start identifying , potential non-PBA pool players? even if its just Jong. he can end up as the scouting coach afterwards.
PBA players seems to be picked randomly anyway so we can leave that to the actual coach to wrap his head around.

I knew that B-league Gilas players would be available during the window qualifiers. What I mean is, baka nga SBP officials aren't aware (dahil nga mga tanga sila) that the B-league Gilas boys aren't available. Remember how Al "Panlinlang" Panlilio insuated before (I think that was early last year) that B-league Gilas boys won't be available for the qualifying windows of the 2023 World Cup, in which Panlilio was proven wrong.

The most interesting question would be: Would the PBA Gilas prospects be available during the qualifying windows?

Or the more interesting question: Would the PBA Gilas prospects be available during the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup tournament proper? Remember that PBA Gilas players weren't available in last year's FIBA Asia Cup tournament proper. It was the B-league boys & college players who played for Gilas in the tournament.

i know, thats what the rest of my reply is. that SBP wont use a lot of these players even if their league allows them.
malabo, pero i hope PBA forms a team whose players age is not more than 26yreas old. and that would be the core. we just add the b league and KBL boys and a few collegiate players as practice players. i dont watch PBA so dont know who these under26year old players are but this way, SBP can still package the team as a PBA team with a few nonPBA to augment them. pogi pa din sila.

If guys like Kai, AJ Edu, Dwight, Parks, & KBL's Abando are recalled to play for Gilas in the qualifying windows, I'm fine with that. That is only 5 players.

You add in PBA stalwarts Junmar, Malonzo, Oftana, Iskati Thompson, I think we are good to go.

Maybe we can add PBA players in the 26-year old & below category like Aaron Black, Alec Stockton, Schonny Winston, Will Navarro & Ken Tuffin.

We need a proper PG like Bolick IMO and a pure shooter like Heading. Tamayo too is a must

Oh sorry, I forgot Carl Tamayo. He should be playing in those qualifying windows as I think he & Balti are the best natural "fours' in Phi basketball right now.

I doubt about Bolick's possible call-up in Gilas now that SMC is in charge of Gilas. Long Hair most likely won't like Bolick being in the team.

Forget the PBA players. Their schedule right now is whack with the opening push back, EASL involvement etc. Let use B.League, KBL and college or even MBPL players.

sidenote: Abueva's age is somehow a mystery, especially that his brith certificate got lost from a flood hehehehe (rumor has it that he is 3-5 yrs older)

I think the only pre-1995 players worthy of inclusion for immediate windows are Parks, June Mar, Perez, Scottie, Ahanmisi, Terrence, Newsome, and maybe Marcio and Japeth, in that order, then cut down to who's available. Rest should be 1996 and beyond.
Good thing we have plenty of suitable players born 1995 and later who have played for Gilas.

                      1995: Bolick
                      1996: Oftana, Heading, Malonzo, Thirdy
                      1997: Navarro, Ange (NP)
                      1998: Dwight
                      1999: SJ, RJ, Juan GDL
                      2000: AJ
                      2001: Tamayo, Quiambao, Chiu
                      2002: Kai
                      2003: Lopez
                      2004: Mason

Hopefully, most of the roster for February will be composed of these guys. A lot of them can compete, and have youth to boot.

With SMC people now getting involved with Gilas, should we expect PBA becoming more active with the national team & in turn be more willing to lend PBA players to Gilas in the 2023 FIBA Asia Cup pee se & its qualifying windows as well?

Wow, Quiambao who is just in his 2nd yr is older than Kai and about the same age as Chiu (5th year).

Hope MVP will not do what SMC did to Gilas before. The question is what is more important to SMC, Qualifiers or PBA crown

I bet MVP won't do that.

Only MVP players who should be in consideration for Gilas, if we're being honest, are Castro, Newsome, Oftana, and Mason Amos, along with some talented or other high-potential player in Ateneo or Beda. Ateneo at Beda lang ang talagang kawalan.
