Don't be surprised if the SBP sends a suicide squad much like how the BAP kept sending the PCCr varsity team before the entire federation imploded. Chances are, they will pool a bunch of volunteers two weeks before the two games. It was much different last time with the pandemic keeping a pool that had Dwight Ramos, Justine Baltazar, both Ravenas, Kobe Paras, and even a few PBA players like Abu Tratter. Realistically, you can form two national teams with just the bench and reserve players of all SMC teams. If all else fails, the SBP will have to get MPBL players.

I honestly don't know much about HK basketball compared to the other pot 3 & 4 East teams, so I really can't tell if an MPBL selection plus a Kouame or Brownlee can beat a HK team with a good naturalized player. Duncan Reid has been there since before 2014 and ought to be classified as a local... but I don't see them beating an ill-prepared Gilas team compared to NZ (even their team D with Taane Samuel made Koume look really bad) and Taipei (always competitive regardless of which league their players come from).

The SBP even with the pro-San Miguel management should consider quitting if they won't even qualify for the FIBA Asia Cup. It's the easiest group for our team to advance compared to the other two groups and there shouldn't be a reason to finish lower than HK.
Overseas players are always available… Ramos, Kouame, Edu, Tamayo, Kai, Abando, Belangel are always there… their leagues are in break when fiba window approaching… so no need to worry about what team will be send… and lastly you are not updated… the qualifying window will be held on February 2024, Not this coming November later this year due to Euroleague - FIBA agreement

Group E will be Iran’s group… yes, they lose before against Kazakhstan but it will not always happen anytime, and Kazakhstan’s basketball program is on mess, and India is not left behind from them, expect India will go all out this qualifiers… meanwhile Qatar will start their preparations for their WC hosting starting this coming February… maybe they are odd man out here, but for sure they will be ready and prove that they are worthy of WC spot in 2027… they might be the last placer here, but I think we should expect that they will also host 2025 fiba asia cup, just to eased the pressure early on…

      Iran 6-0
      Kazakhstan 3-3
      India 3-3
Qatar 0-6 (but will qualify due to hosting)

As far as I can tell, it’s only the SEAG and Asiad where the Overseas Hoopers aren’t available. Not that it matters as the SBP has a fuckton of Fil-ineligibles to choose from in the PBA.

Group F will be a two team race between Lebanon and Bahrain.. Lebanon will have an edge vs Bahrain but the latter can upset Lebanon in one of occasions that they will have a good day, remember, Bahrain just beat Lebanon in their tune up game last month… so familiarity between these two is already prove time to time… meanwhile, Syria have some sort of advantage vs UAE for battle to the 3rd seed team in their group, but doubts about Syria’s capability after a disappointing Pre OQT stint last month that saw Syria just only won a game being a host team that they supposed to be the favorites… I still see Syria will win over UAE…

          Lebanon 6-0
          Bahrain 4-2
          Syria 2-4
          UAE 0-6

Next Asian games will be 2026, and I hope that tournament will be held in off season, so that overseas players are available… anyway asian games 2026 will be held in Japan.. that means B league might reserve their schedule after B league season… the event will be capable to adjust the schedule because they are the host.. so it means our B league players might be available too in Asian games in 2026… the only problem will be Next seagames because the event will be schedule in December 2025… so don’t expect overseas players available that time…

We will see. LH loves him some PBA. Outside of kai, aj, and dwight i doubt he will really use nonPBA players as much as possible.

                When is the olympic qualifiers?
WE DON'T COUNT YEARS, WE COUNT CENTURIES

                P. Noval, A.H. Lacson, Dapitan, Espanya

The core of Abando, Ramos, AJ and Kai are enough whatever who will be the coach… I think Parks also will show up too once LH will call his name… he trusted LH more than everybody… while Olympic qualifiers will be held July 2-7, no host yet and wait for announcement when will be the draw of OQT…

Ok, lets not plan and prepare anymore. We pin everything on 5 players and just add whoever. Coach wont matter as per your post.

Other countries using that formula… we will still need plan and a good coach should be a must… but atleast Gilas already have that core that can use even thou in different coaches.. Iran used that formula since 2007 until Haddadi’s retirement last month, Argentina using that formula too since 2002.. everyone knows that the core should be start with Ramos, Edu, Abando and Kai… maybe a very good PG and a NP that will fit those 4 main core group… and the rest will be very good role players… we don’t need star studded cast in national team…

This. Kai and AJ are basically necessities now. Dwight is our best perimeter player besides Clarkson.

Our future NT probably would use the core of SMC plus farm teams plus those 3

let's see how tamayo develops, his skillset was severely missed in the WC. those 4 + pba hugots should be the core of the national team, and maybe bolick since he's currently the best local fiba-eligible PG if he patches things up with the pba

Thing is, though, the only SMC + farm team players that reasonably fit the timeline for 2027 are Malonzo, CJ, Scottie, Arvin, and Navarro, maybe Terrence. It will be roster overhaul after roster overhaul if we use too many PBA players, not much continuity.

Well I have low hopes for Bolick's return despite him declaring himself available given that his name wasn't even included with the list that SBP submitted and there are ALOT of questionable names on that list.

I agree with you but I was basing my statement on how Longhair operates.

IMO we really should give Geo Chiu more international reps. Mason too but those probably are longshots now
