NZL only bring their best rosters in major tournaments such as World Cup, FIBA Asia and OQT / Olympics…. Anyway, Jordan proved that NZL is not untouchable… if not for many miss freethrows, they could have won that game… And we are better than Jordan, So we must do what Jordan did to NZL…

In 3 to 5 years time, these players are expected to be vital components of their national senior team.
But they need a legit big man for truly become a true contender… they are like China minus bigs in terms of playstyle…

Well, if Taiwan can consistently be among the top 6 teams in Asia-Oceania 3 to 5 years from now, then I think that is already a significant achievement for Taiwanese basketball.

I agree with you, their inability to develop competent local big men would be their biggest hurdle to become among the top 6 teams in asia-oceania.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

It’s unlikely Taiwan is in the top 6… top 6 for me are Australia, Japan, Lebanon, NZL, Philippines and Jordan… then China, Iran and Korea… that is in order in terms of strength, current achievements and potential.. Taiwan maybe no.10.. but teams like Bahrain, KSA, Guam and Indonesia is in the reach on being a top 10 contender… they have a hard time beating Guam last play in match for last spot for fiba asia cup.. They just won vs Guam by quotient points (both split their two game series)… Guam didn’t have Cruz, Ross and Washington in that match (although no Artino and Abbasi for Taiwan)..

          • If Guam have a good coach and system, they are the dark horse team in this continent… They have 2 legit bigs in Galloway (Plays in Europe) and Washington.. They have Tai Wesley, the leader of Guam team, former NBL veteran, and two good wings in Ross and Cruz, both elite scorers in their position.. Their line up is very solid in Asia.. although they badly need very good PGs.. their main PG Darren Hechanova is not a good PG, even in Asian standards.. he always rattled when press goes in… while Calvo and Simon are there because the team has no other options at guard position.. both are not even pass the standards even in the MPBL level… but that’s ok, Galloway, Washington, Wesley, Cruz and Ross are already solid crew for Guam…

IMO Australia is the clear cut no 1 team. Probably unbeatable when against Asian teams. Japan , Lebanon,New Zealand, Philippines, Jordan, SK , China and Iran are at the same level and could beat each other depending on the team composition and preparation. The other teams would have a hard time beating them

But Japan, Lebanon, NZL and Philippines are tier above China, Jordan, Iran and Korea... Gilas earned some respect after good showing in the WC despite 4 losses, only SSD beat Gilas more than 10 pts and they won Asian Games gold beating Jordan, China and Iran's team A, although China and Iran are rebuilding teams this time... Lebanon are slight higher than Gilas and NZL due to their recent success in past 2 years... Meanwhile, only Japan full strength can beat Australia, They just only lose 20 pts in their WC match w/o their main guy Hachimura..

Gilas can hold practice now as only CJ Perez & Junmar Fajardo being the members of the team not available as their SMB team is locked in the best of 7 Championship series with Magnolia.

If SMB wins tonight, then Perez & Junmar would be available by Feb. 15, but if Magnolia extends the series to game 7, then Perez & Junmar wont be available until Feb. 17.

But why wait for the SMB-Magnolia championship series to end when Gilas can already hold practices now minus Perez & Junmar?

Reminds of the ridiculous statement issued by Al "Panlinlang" Panlilio last year in which he said that compared to the PBA national team prospects, B-league national team prospects are not as available for national team duties which of course is a stark opposite of the reality. This 1st window of the FIBA Asia Cup is a good example of the real situation. B-league takes 3 week break to give way to the 1st window while our beloved PBA is still ongoing at this point. Buti nalang at only 2 Gilas PBA players are playing in finals. What if its a SMB-Ginebra finals? Eh di as many as 4 Gilas players won't be available until possibly Feb. 17.

                    Panlinlang talaga itong si Panlilio.

That's why you cannot have officers in the SBP that has conflict of interest. We all know that Al and Ricky Vargas are both from the MVP group. Of course, they will protect the interest of the PBA, even if they lie.

                            That's good.
Sayang naman kasi yung few days of practice in which they could start the training despite missing the 2 players of SMB. We'll never know what will happen in tonight's game 6 between SMB & Magnolia. If Mag wins tonight then Perez & Junmar would be able to join the Gilas practice on Sat. Feb. 17.

So Gilas can start their full training mode atleast on Friday (give some much needed break tomorrow for SMB duo)… then also for Jericho Cruz Guam stint… after Gilas, rooting for Guam to finally get the slot for FIBA Asia cup, after missing the bus last qualifiers…
