  • If I were Guam, as early as now, I will start to invest in the future. The team is old now and with their meager population, it will be hard for them to replace these players immediately.

Another point for them is to replace the coach. I don't know if any from their coaching staff has any idea about international basketball. By looking how Guam plays, how they rotate the ball and how they defend, you see the lack of idea from their coaching staff.

If ever they qualify, which they will for sure, I wish them luck. West Asians have tough teams to deal with.

        Oh I hope they don't!!!
Becoz if Guam team will have some G-leaguers in its roster, that would be another competitive team in Asia-Oceania na magiging malaking problema ng Gilas.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

What benefits these G-Leaguers will get from playing Guam? Aside from playing for its national team, it has nothing to offer. No professional league on that island to begin with.

NBL considers oceania countries as locals.. If jericho cruz is as good as papa dweet, he can play here as local

so IF ever that happens, they can play here as locals..

              • realistically, Guam being an unincorporated territory of the US thus making all Chamorros a US citizen

by way of an Act passed by the US congress and approved by then it's Pres. during those early days.

so it's really inevitable to those Americans esp. to those who had Chamorros bloodline to represent Guam moving forward

just like us Filipinos, the diaspora of that Pacific Islanders in mainland US are abundance.

so expect them to rebuild their own program.

esp. now that they've already experience this whole FIBA thing

as part of the Asia-Oceania Zone

therefore SBP should not act as the literal Slow Horses working in a Slough House whose mindset is always "it's just another day in the office thing".

coach Tinyente and Grandpa Chualay alongside E.D E.D should really come up intensive grassroot program on all diaspora

because Guam will be a force to reckon with moving forward

                that's inevitable.

Fiba stints getting offers from any professional leagues all over the world, especially if you perform well.. with Guam might qualify for Fiba Asia cup, playing for Guam is a good start for their basketball career overseas.. Freddie Lish of Thailand got an offer in Mongolia after his stellar performance last Fiba stint last year.. Earnest Ross getting good offers in Japan and Taiwan after his consistent performance with Guam in past years.. I'm sure there are some American ballers who have Guam connection who are not found yet.. eligibility in Guam is more easier than sovereign nations, since they are under US colony, residency is enough already...

Sometimes they look like they improve.. they have already a ft away from upsetting Koreans.. I think they should more focus securing their best talents for long term.. having changing players every window will not work for them.. they have talents right now.. Ejesu, Lamb, Bruenig, Lish, Morgan, Jaisunuk, Jakrawan are already a good core.. Just need more playing together to established chemistry.. as not good coach as coach Calvo for Guam, he established chemistry between Galloway, Wesley, Cruz, Ross, Simon and Johnson together.. this team already played more games together, that's why they knew each other.. this core already played together since 2018, so even those players have their commitments in other leagues or other daily jobs (Wesley already retired as pro baller), when they came together for every Fiba tournaments, they have already establish chemistry since they already played together for years... As for Indonesia, I understand what happened to them, once Bolden and DMX available, they have a chance to return again in Asia cup.. as Guam's core are already old, Thais problematic chemistry and Mongolia are still starting in 5x5 setting, Indonesia have a chance to grab that spot again, since Bolden and DMX are game changers for Indonesia basketball program...

You also have a tendency to overhype teams on the basis of 1 or 2 games.

Look at their base talent first. If their recent success is due to a bunch of naturalized players or exempted ineligibles, then it’s not telling much.

Qatar’s recent resurgence in good form is due to Lewis and Harris. Simple as that. Take those players away, then they’re back to being kulelat.

You know why the Asia Elite 8 (China, Lebanon, Iran, Philippines, Korea, Japan, Jordan, and NZ) are always competitive? Because the basketball talent, infrastructure, viewership, and competitiveness has been around for decades. Outside Australia, these are the teams that can consistently form competitive teams.

ASEAN and Gulf Teams simply aren’t there yet which is consistent with their lopsided W-L records against the Elite 8 favoring the latter.

Look at Saudi Arabia. How many times have they beaten any of the Elite 8 in an official FIBA competition? Once against Jordan in 2021 and the latter was without Al-Dwairi and Tucker.
