FIBA ASIA Cup Qualifiers

Considering the recent results of the PBA playoffs and if the KBL/B-League boys are unavailable, I hope the following players will be invited for the pool of the February qualifiers:
GUARDS-
Newsome- 6'2
Winston- 6'1
Bolick- 6'1
Stockton- 6'1
Black- 6'1
Valdez- 6'2
Heading- 6'2
WINGS-
Quiambao- 6'4
Oftana- 6'5
Tolentino- 6'5
Navarro- 6'6
Javi GDL- 6'3
Lopez- 6'5
F/C's
Amos- 6'7
Carino- 6'6
Arana- 6'6
Tamayo- 6'7
Balti- 6'8
Chiu- 6'10
Kouame(?)- 6'10
We badly need Ange especially that AJ is injured and Kai (his handlers) as we all know might play hard to get again.
In my opinion, Bolick, Newsome, Heading, Quiambao, Oftana, Tamayo, Balti and hopefully Kouame must be there to form the core of this qualifier team.Last edited by one21guns; 01-23-2024, 11:12 AM.

History has it that B-league players Dwight Ramos, Thirdy Ravena & Kiefer Ravena were able to play in the qualifying windows of the 2023 FIBA World Cup becoz of those brief breaks that B-league made & of course these Pinoy players were allowed by their respective B-league teams to play for Gilas."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

Carino has been listed as 6'8 in Batang Gilas so possible he's a normal Pinoy who's growth stops at 15 or 16,but not lose 2 inches, some had said he grown an inch sinch the Batang Gilas days so maybe he's 6'9

In line with that, let's hope that Dwight and Kai can still make themselves available. SBP must negotiate with their camps, ASAP. BRP Jr., Abarrientos, Abando (if he is 100% recovered) and Adams MUST also receive invites. Galaw-galaw, SBP. It's about time that we see refreshing changes from this archaic organization.

As for Balti, his defense is there but his 3 pt shot is being exposed. He has good looks but he simply doesnt make it. Balti is more of a finesse PF. He needs to go to the gym and practice his 3s. Against bigger and taller guys its hard for him score on the half court. He will be open at the 3 but he needs to make it.
KQ usually plays SF or SG. His handles are not that smooth. But decent enough when combined with his shooting and passing. I thought it was impossible but KQs shooting has surpassed his passing. This actually validates the UAAPs level of competition. By defeating all the good FSAs in UAAP and winning both the championship and MVP and yes playing like at times like an import in a club tourney, this shows that the level of comp in the UAAP is really up there. And maybe even better as an international game indicator than the PBA.Originally posted by IPCGood on you for Heading proving you right. He actually surprised me with his defense and playmaking too. Hope he gets invited to Gilas. We need shooting and defense, and Heading provides both.
As for the UAAP being better as an international game indicator than the PBA, we've seen PBA stars flop in the international level in years past. RR Pogoy, Troy Rosario, Matthew Wright. But there were also guys like Newsome, Perez, and Bolick. As for UAAP, we've seen Carl and Navarro perform well in FIBA play straight out of there. Dwight didn't even play in the UAAP. I might need more of a sample size for the UAAP, but the international offers could be enough?
