    .

Wait until the culmination of FIBA Asia Cup. Definitely there will be additions considering SEA Games will be held this December. That’s when you definitely see new faces…

Thats a different scenario right now when Kai sotto, Tamayo, KQ, etc. are earning millions montly in other leagues. The whole Gilas team probably consists of players with max contracts.

This is a basic explanation why ideal as it may seem, having a team B is not feasible unless groups like SGA shoulder it.

Gilas reserves = to replace immediately
Team B = developmental team for the future

When you choose reserve players its because they are capable substitutes immediatlely

Japeth, Kouame, Troy, Mason and psossibly QMB, Heading and Abando are sufficient as reserves in the eyes of CTC

If you are whining, its because you favorite player like Balti, Bolick or Navarro were not chosen.

Lets say CTC indulges you by adding Balti and Navarro, whats stopping other fans from clamoring for Parks, Tolentino, Belanguel to be included? Why even stop at these players, we can add more pa...

Honestly, I don't really want a big Gilas pool of say 20 or more players becoz having such a big pool would make establishing chemistry & cohesion more difficult. I said it many times that my ideal Gilas pool size is 15 to 16 players.

What I'm against are the continued inclusion of the aging Japeth Aguilar in the pool (he has already retired from Gilas actually) and the addition of another aging player in Troy Rosario (I think Troy is turning 34 soon) in the pool. I think coach Tim should have accomodated much younger players like Baltazar or Navarro or Ken Tuffin instead. Remember, this is a 4-year program hence the more younger players we have in pool, the better as far as long term endeavor is concerned.

The possible addition of Heading & Abando to the pool is a welcome development as these two players will bolster the pool's thin guard pool (1 & 2 spots).

Again, this isn't about wanting to see one's favorite player/s in the Gilas pool. This is about wanting the pool to have the more serviceable players, especially if we're talking about long term endeavor.

        • Good to know that Dwight Ramos seems OK & good to go. Perhaps the injury he sustained last Sunday is only very minor.

Gilas can't afford to sustain another injury to its players with a No. of players already injured.

I completely understand what you were implying. The thing is...I was not specifically talking only to you (and in whatever context it is you have with Deku)...like I said many are calling for a pool expansion, not only you.

I think I made valid points in my initial statement and I'd rather discuss those points.

But I think they are just sort of warm bodies para ma kumpleto lang yung team as a No. of Gilas players won't be present or can't scrimmage during the 1st few practices of the team. As we all know, Tamayo will join the team pag nasa Qatar na sila, Japeth won't be available for the Qatar tournament becoz of person matters while Troy Rosario is out of the Qatar tourney due to injury. I think Newsome will just join the team in Qatar as Meralco has to play a game in the EASL. Dwight Ramos might not be able to join the team's initial practices becoz that of injury last Sunday.

I'd like to win our group, but priority should be to find a workable lineup. We will need as many workable lineups as possible, especially in the November 2025 and even February 2026 windows.
OK, I'll have a few questions here.

                  1. Do we have the players to form a workable lineup when none of Kai, AJ, and Japeth are on the floor?
                  2. How do the players and the system compensate for the lack of an interior defender when none of Kai, AJ, and Japeth are on the floor?
                  3. If we don't have a workable lineup without Kai, AJ, and Japeth, how will we adjust?

As to 1 and 2 (which are interrelated), I remember that we played the games against Georgia and Brazil with June Mar and Japeth as basically our only centers (Kai was there against Georgia for only a half). We zoned against Georgia, and we shot 36-57 from the field (13-23 from 3). Against Brazil, June Mar was targeted in PnR and we couldn't get our offense going in the 2nd half.

I hope we have answers to 1 and 2 by this window. If we can't answer them, we'll have to answer 3 after the Asia Cup.

Then its time for Tamayo to step up and not just become another big off the bench. The best teams can win with their bench and not be crippled if one or two starters go down with an injury. Iran played many games without Hadadi but was still formidable in Asia. Japan played without their NBA guys for most continental tournaments but were still good enough to top their group.

Kai's loss will weaken Gilas but if we are to be respected and considered elite in Asia, we should win without him or without a Brownlee

If only QMB is declared by FIBA as local Pinoy in time for the 3rd window, and Ange Kouame being declared by FIBA as Gilas local player as well, we won't be having this kind of discussion.

I also think Carl will be key here. Agreed, he needs to step up so that we have another lineup option, even if it's with Carl at 5. Shoot better and defend better, maybe score more. Shooting-wise, he's OK in FIBA. Defense, he needs to prove himself here.

The others will have to step up on offense too. June Mar, Carl, Quiambao, Oftana, Dwight, CJ, and even Oftana and Newsome.

Just like how Ginebra is playing defense. Clog the lane for inside play and penetrations. More mobile defense and have JF to do drop coverage or zone it up. I am not saying it will work especially if NZ and Taiwan will shoot above 50%. To be fair both teams shoot around 34% from 3s.

It will be an issue if we face top Asian teams without our tall lineup as TC envisions it. TC is banking on chemistry. We don't want to see a repeat of the 1998 Centennial team where we were tall but lacked cohesion. Unlike now the core of this lineup has been practicing multiple years already.

The remaining bigs need to be better defenders not only in the post but in challenging drives. I haven't seen Carl's game lately. Who knows he's improved in this respect. I also hope Amos improved in this part also. I don't expect of KQ, should be playing SF or Jamie, coming off calf injury. Of course JB can do this. But we already ask a lot of him on offense.

                              • Maverick Ahammisi is highly recommended if were talking about warm bodies and that filling the spot thing.

at 6'2 he is eligible and had the body to bang around the TB's dreaded back court

well, were hoping that The Blitz may fastrack his learnings

being schooled by that cry baby Corey is a bitter pill to swallow

but he badly needs that (good) experience moving forward.

if only Stephen Holt is eligible.

anyway it is what it is.

see you in SEAG and AG(hopefully)
