Khaled Abdel Gabbar from KSA also in that list... I thought he was local.. but he was classified as naturalized but now granted as local.. same goes for Mamadou Ndiaye of UAE...

Nope .. this is not as easy as you think.. Fiba just recently gave us a favor by giving Newsome exemption status last year... SBP just carefully doing their work without any argument from other countries regarding this .. and what I know, this kind of cases have price to pay... When SBP file exemption case for Newsome, SBP about to pay more than a million pesos for this.. and that is not 100% granted... So you have to understand that granting exemption cases is not a free charity from FIBA... Some countries do this and failed.. example is Tyler Dorsey from Greece...

        Sir Dave,

Ange having a good relationship with the SMB empire thru Grandpa Chualay and CTC

in fact CTC already mentioned that AK34 will be a big part of the program moving forward

also, with the MVP group thru MVP itself.

if those two empire offers him something that is hard to resist plus the usual "Pangkabuhayan Package" ala Kerby Raymundo among others, as a best example.

therefore playing in international leagues would be an option.

Sir Dave you know Ange, he is almost the same as JMF

he ain't in the same breath as Greg and CStand who had a very strong personality(s).

we really do hope the Grandpas allows him to apply for next season's PBA Draft to validate more for a possible exemption.

with the appointment of Grandpa Chualay both for the boys and Mens program we can expect some major improvement

whether we hate him or agree with him, we already know the end result.

For Kouame's case, since he's not available being a local in the PBA.. SBP alongside PBA, MVP and SMC are not worried for this...

Ange case is different... He can't be classified as locals in the PBA forever since our league only classified local who have Filipino blood or lineage, and not thru naturalization... That means it's ok for all parties that Ange will granted exemption case and play for Japan as Asian import ..

Actually from the news Chua is saying the right things, talent and height identification including overseas and player development, use of network of partners etc.
let's give him the benefit of the doubt he can do all the things weve been talking about for years.

He just started as Program Director, so in a sense the overall direction of a program has been absent for last 2 years , SBP focus was the world cup Ann nothing else it's only now that they are starting to plan strategically on what to do for the overall player identification and development, including recruiting Fil foreigners and processing their passport, there was zero planning and no program whatsoever in the past 4 years.
preparing for tournament like Batang Gilas for 1 or 2 .months is NOT a program
So hopefully they dont forget Ange, and addess how best to maximize his use, including processing his exemption. And giving him income to play locally and available to Gilas the stakeholders including the PBA should come up with a solution to address Kouame

                • The fee and processing for exemptions is not a secret, it's provided to each federation , I'll check my records and post it here ..2,000 Swiss francs (about $4k) for the application and you don’t get it back if the request is denied.
length for decision is dependent on availability of sec general and staff. . Its a pretty straightforward process, it's not a case of lobbying or influencing, pala Kasan, like some are suggested here .
just follow the explicitly provided guidelines

Ah OK. So the fact that Kouame has already played for gilas as a naturalized player won't hinder the possibility that he might get a FIBA exemption.

Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

If it was straight forward why only Tyler Harris has done this kind of way to be a local. Japan could easily have multiple foreigners be a local

                        • Japan can easily find lots of foreign talent if they want to, but I very much doubt they would, Japan are firm believers in their own program / process and would only want players who went through their ranks bar the occasional import.

It's just 4k each? That's money well spent IMO if you're successful. Why are we not doing this to all our ineligibles?

But not applying for Koume's local status does not make sense for Phil stakeholders since they are not letting him play as a local in Philippine leagues. Ange is essentially in limbo which is totally unfair for the guy. He is not the naturalized player priority. Unless, the PBA has plans of letting FSA's play in the league if they are graduates of local universities. Can you shed light on this matter further, Sir DAdmiral?

Because it is not guarantee... FIBA also setting guidelines... Greece failed to convince Fiba for letting Tyler Dorsey to be exempted as local... Vietnam also failed to convince Chris Dierker to be exempted... As Mr. Zagklis said, A player who got their passports after 16 needs to be connected to the country who wants to represent thru playing to the main local league, national team, residency status and other factors that connected to the main basketball federation of that country he/she will represent... The main reason why I want atleast semi professional league for womens basketball here.. This is the best way to make Favour Onoh as local player for Gilas women and some Fil-foreigners who are ineligible..
