      • Very important for NZ is if one of their top centers ( Wetzell, Manenga or even Fotu are available. ) they need the rebounding and inside scoring presence to match with Gilas size , which was absent last Thursday.
Head of the snake , Shea Ili is also really important for NZ competitiveness.
And more experience defender vs Brownlee ( TeRangi, Delaney)

The positive for NZ this window, is the introduction of new FIBA National team players ( their 1st meaningful minutes)

For NZL they really need to be giving exposure to Corey Webster replacement. The only NZ eligible player I see who can replace Corey next yeae , is NBA draftee Mojave King.

Recall telling Gilas staff last March, with the current transition period of Tall Blacks, i think Gilas will beat them this window. True enough prediction came true

          • Lack of budget is weird considering the local league pays well. Government doesnt want the local stakeholders to step in?

              • If Qatar ia using contribution to the growth to basketball in Qatar as reason ( investing in camps etc and bringing the NBA to Qatar), , then that would be like if Clarkson was based in Philippines and led player development for the SBP.

Contribution to Advancement of basketball is actually in the FIBA guidelines as one of the reasons for exceptions

This article may have dropped the clues as to why Harris was classified as a local Qatar.

His IG and LinkedIn accounts may also give us some clarity here.

Not convincing... Clarkson have charities here and helping young Filipino kids thru programs but why he didn't classify as local... Any player of any origin can do that... Don't base on that article.. as per Mr. zagklis, exemption needs having strong connection to his country that he will play... He didn't enter residency as he played numerous leagues overseas.. he just finished his stint in Argentina just summer.. so that means he's not qualified as local..

                  • Just me , for Gilas I like the competition provided by the likes of Cambodia and Qatar using "questionable eligible players ' competition is always good, we should be at peace with just doing things our way, regardless if rival countries take advantage of the rules.

Are we really so paranoid with Qatar and Cambodia? Really now

Why are you so addicted to defending FIBA? They are not perfect for sure. If people have criticism let them have their peace.

Not at all the point , point is its actually beneficial to Gilas to have better competition regardless if the rules are flawed for others to take advantage off. Asia is still the the weakest zone , despite countries taking advantage of the rules, improve competition is OK

I would disagree. Most player development occurs outside Gilas. We can practice all we want and upset some teams but those are upsets for a reason. At the end of the day player development is really on the mother teams.

Not siding with anyone. Just looking for possible reasons for his exemption.

I agree , player development is mainly done by mother teams full time ( not 2 week FIBA tournament)..
my point about better competition in the region, is it's better to bench mark vs legitimate size and skilled players like the Cambodian team full of Americans , than dominating small South East Asian teams.

That's a good perspective and approach, there is no point in arguing justification if a player is trully a national local or not, that's really irrelevant. We're not in a debating competition
but to know what are the different reasons for FIBA exempting player as a local, reality also is while we may know alot about the general background of a player, for each unique case, we really don't have access to all the records, evidence and information. Some info are private details
