We Need Shooters

I'd like the list to become much younger (seeing the ages of these pba draftees is disheartening). Like I mentioned Amos, Competente and then we can add Konov and Cabanero to the list.

Playing position is now irrelevant because shooting is now required from each position.

Their coaches moving forward will also matter a lot because getting the "green light" trust from coaches is important for shooters. Also important is the team play-style.

What is abandos splits in kbl and wc?

My hesitation with him is, if you remove the blocks, he doesnt really look like a good defender.
I like the 3s and energy but other than thats he is mostly highlight dunks and blocks. So, if his average on 3s good, no problem. But if its good but in low volume, should we then test tuffin and/or cabanero?

change has to start at the youth/grassroots level.

Change has to start at the coaching level. We have young shooters, the problem is club team coaches like those in the MPBL, prefer slashers who have fancy moves and who can draw a following. Shooters are plain vanilla and don't bring crowds to watch games. Same way a Paul Alvarez or a Samboy Lim type would always overshadow shooters like Allan Caidic.

Lassiter should have been invited. U got a good 3-pt shooter & a decent wing defender with Lassiter. Matt Wright has been a disappointment with his Gilas stint. Nag iiba ang tira nya when faced with taller wing defenders.

Even in the Asian Games-bound Gilas team, I would love Lassiter to be there.

Agree with Wright haha. Dinadaga talaga and plays hot potato with the ball unlike. But my point is you have to invite these players at least. My guess is they didn't smooth things out with the PBA regarding their move to the Bleague unlike Heading and Parks etc

We could have really used those 4 guys last WC. Heading was injured but the other guys weren't even invited to the pool.

we have good shooters actually ... problem is they're only good when shooting against similar sized or smaller players

its one thing for lassiter or wright to get a shot off a pogoy or scottie yet it s a totally different ballgame when they have to shoot vs uber 6'5 athletes in the international stage

what gilas needs is a tall point guard or go to small forward that can suck in defenses and thus open up shooters

Yes that's why I like Amos (excellent shooting form + size) who shot well in his Gilas stint, and Competente in his Batang Gilas stint. Meanwhile, Tuffin played in the NBL.

Most important to become an elite shooter is repetition (so work ethic and a good shooting motion is key) and confidence. Also needed is a "shooter's mentality." Always looking to shoot as the number one option (Klay).

Plus of course age. We want shooters in that 17-23 range as building blocks.

one of the problems I think local shooters have is their shooting in the pba doesn’t translate to FIBA especially worlds, they either have slower release or lack the size so it’s easier for defenders with length to close out on them
