Jude Roque and San Beda had a closer look at him last year. Played as a jump shooting big man most of his Canadian years. Only started to play in the perimeter when he moved to the US last year. Kinda soft and is a project when it comes to playing in the perimeter. Around 18-19 years old.

He's got good size and has a very good shooting form. He played in the recent NBTC, it was kind of confusing why he wasn't getting more playing time for his team even if he looked like one of their best players. Didn't get to watch a lot of him because of that. I was thinking he probably already got an offer and accepted that's why they were trying to hide him. However, that may not be the case because no news about him playing in the Philippines.

As for the wing part, maybe improve the handle, just to attack closeouts? To be honest, a 6'7" guy with his quickness and motor doesn't sound too bad, whether he plays 4 or 3, can be a prototype for an ideal 4 if he pans out.

As for dislodging, wait and see. Honestly, I hope he stays in the States for college first.

Wacks Ludovice also has great vision, deceptive athleticism and long arms which enable him to play bigger. More importantly, he has a humble attitude and has been mentored well by his older brothers. Although he plays for a different club team (and school), he is one of our favorite opponents and we relish the challenge of going against him and his teams to sharpen our own skills.

On another matter, as I mentioned in another thread, the best shooter (and press breaker) of this Gilas squad, 5'5 Gian Gomez begged off from joining the Doha tournament (as with Espinas and Hachuela) to take care of his studies.

Right on point about the attitude. The kid is impressive with his attitude. Pay attention to how he treats teammates after they make something good or something bad, he's always giving encouragement. Even when he's on the bench.

How tall are his parents/brothers, is there a chance he'll grow more?

Reminds me of that undersized shooter who just recently got drafted in the PBA. This is the perfect role for an undersized shooter, not the main scorer as with the previous undersized shooter. Ludovice's defense is also pretty good for a midget PG. He also knows his role very well. He doesnt shy when he is open but also doesnt force shots.

Confidence. And the kid has tons of it, and a knack for making it in "crucial" moments like that big 3 at the end of the 3rd to regain the lead. His size didn't matter and so did exposure (first time at fiba). Good job by Josh giving him the green light, and of course to Alas the ace. It's all about the Cajones.

This is what elite shooters look like when they were young. He just needs to keep shooting hundreds of shots a day, and compete at the highest level possible.

No dislodging needed. Like what I said in my previous post, players are trending towards the size/versatility of a wing all playing together. So we need as much prospects of that variety as possible.

Look at the Letran juniors championship squad. Also, look at the new recruits of ADMU, they loaded up on young close to 6'3-6'5 versatile players who can all shoot.

Now if we can translate that into Gilas that's closer to 6'6" across the board and all can shoot then that's a good start.

The trend in world basketball (especially youth brackets) that I see is, teams will have 3 to 4 very similar in height players (wings) then a big and sometimes a smaller lead guard. But for those 3 to 4 similarly sized players, positions are blurred and they can all shoot and handle the ball.

chot's actually been doing this for years..his "3-4 similar height players who can shoot and handle the ball" are all point guards though and around 6' or below in height. i even remember him playing alapag, tenorio, and castro together at the same time before

It's only logical that if basketball becomes position-less and "switch everything on D" the height that would be ideal is the middle-sized wing. Hopefully in our case taller wings than we're used to.

Junior team of Letran employed a team composition like this, most players were close to 6'1-6'3. They were all versatile defenders and can handle the ball, whoever got a defensive rebound took off. The only missing thing again....good shooting.

I think Konov is more of a tweener at this point, but let's see if he can still develop into a true wing (I hope so). He has quickness and hustle, so maybe he can develop into a 3&D 3/4. Checks two boxes at once, shooting and defense from the forward spot.

Are you buying 6'7-6'8 Fil Russian Alex Konov as a Wing Shooter? Or he is more of a Stretch Big?

outside of 2 dribbles to get away from close outs he cant put the rock on the floor to attack the defense. mostly set shots and occasional putbacks. i like that he puts efforts to run during fastbreak though.

I like his shooting form to go with his length.

Like Caidic said in his article, he was more of the "set plays" type of shooter. This is how to utilize shooters lacking in handles.

Konov runs/moves well and looks competitive (may angas) so I see his potential in moving without the ball to get open. Youth is also on his side so lots of development time.

And for a "pure shooter," that one or two dribble after a close out then doing a pull up, can already be enough of a lethal arsenal. Klay is hard to stop being that type of player.

im not too worried with this kid. it's all up to the coach. if they use Konov for pick n pops, hi\lo, or even for kickouts, he would be a great addition because on top of his shooting, he adds rebounding. but if, whoever the coach would be when he is ripe for the main Gilas team, he used like how Wright was used. meaning, given the ball to create, he might now be the one we want. id rather have him than porter or mahmoud though. none of those 3 can be 5s and most likely not be used as wings either. we have too many dynamic wings to choose from that these 3 will be used mostly as stretch big and only Konov has decent height. 6'5 porter and mahmoud wont scare anyone in the international scene past SEA region.
