My question now for Qatar and FIBA… Will FIBA award Qatar a direct spot as host? in terms of performance, they are not good and their rankings are too low.. it didn’t help that they lose to Non World Cup team like Kazakhstan… It’s a shame if they will give Qatar a spot and they will perform like that, playing in the World Cup is not a charity event… they will lose badly in the World Cup and give Asian basketball community a big shame… Asian zone is the weakest competition level in all 4 continental zones and adding Qatar will not do good for the competition… FIBA should give them the same treatment as Indonesia, So that Qatar will go all out just to be consider… A top 8 spot in the fiba asia cup is a must for them to force them to do better..

    AUS
    NZ
    JPN
    LIB
    KOR
    CHN
Toss up between PHI, JOR, and IRI

Then again, TPE, BHR, even KAZ are capable of pulling off upsets. QAT might not take this seriously as qualified hosts pero alangan naman magpapatalo diba?
Taipei can’t pull it thru because they were bracket in tough East region… If they were in West, They can easily make it to the 2nd round… It’s hard to then pull an upset against top 6 East region teams…

I see those teams will qualified for 2027 FIBA WC... Sorry for Korea and Iran, their rebuilding process will need more time to get back from being serious contenders again...
Depending on the brackets, I see Korea in while toss up between Japan and Jordan.

We will need the roster to be well-built so we can contend with, and beat them. At least the non-Oceania teams.

Same as Indonesia, get into top 8 of FIBA Asia cup, or normal qualification via WC qualifiers... Imagine a ranked 104 will have a slot in the tournament because thy just host it? We faced them last Asian Games, we beat them by 40 plus points, they also almost lose to NP less Indonesia (who didn't get automatic slot for WC) in final qualification for play in round last Asian Games... Imagine if they grouped w/ any European or Americas team? A 70-80 pt blowout we will see if Qatar plays, Not a good sight for FIBA that they market the tournament as one of the best events in the world... I will understand if they have a solid fan base that will help FIBA's revenue such as Mongolia or Israel (or even Vietnam, they have rising fan base today)... Qatar's home game are not sold out, Almost empty arena, If not for foreign fans or local based fans such as Filipinos, Chinese or Lebanese watching there... I would rather have Syria to host, atleast there are many basketball fans in Syria to help FIBA's revenue, In fact last 3rd window of WC qualifiers (June 2022), Syria hold the most number of attendance in that stretch, even beaten us, Lithuanians and any other teams that has big fan base such as Serbians, Greeks or Lebanese fans...

Plus no one cares if Qatar gets demolished they survived the biggest sporting event on earth despite not winning any single game and getting trashed for a sports that really matter to them, and how sure are you that they will not try to improve their team until 2027, Qatar has the resources, plus they are not hosting to be a serious threat or win anything it's about Qatar as country and not Qatar national basketball team,
But other countries will question it, especially European countries...Qatar has no basketball culture and history (aside from 2006 qualification)... Qatar can host, no problem about that, But direct qualification should be not given outright, Their ranking is too low to be considered, They ranked 104 in current FIBA rankings... Not deserve for automatic qualification.. Their current line up is weak.. If they give them automatic qualification, FIBA's reputation will be question here.. It will use this as sample for future same situations like this one... Better give them same treatment as Indonesia last WC qualifiers, If they didn't qualified, better give that spot for more deserving team from Europe or Americas region that is more competitive and have huge followers

I have just concern on what will other countries feel when they will see Qatar will get heavy 70-80 pt blowouts in WC games.. it will be embarrassing and shame for their country, even thou they don’t care about basketball too much.. they will be a walking meme in international scene… worst than Shanghai sharks memes…

The way it looks seems like they are more interested in marketing their country instead of seeing their NT compete against a world basketball power.

I mean, isn't this how sports washing works? The whole point is for advertising in order to attract investors.

So even if Qatar gets the Indonesia treatment, it won't really affect them as a whole.

Robert, doesnt even a real world cup in volleyball, the only reason we got an indonesian case last year is because we have potential 3 automatic qualified teams..

Ok ill rephrase. Was there a solo host of a fiba event that did not automatically qualify? Because if i remeber correctly, Indonesia is the first host who did not qualify.
