  • We need to play tough and smart in this game. Mental toughness is a must, Georgia will have a handicap to cover on while us we need to play our game.As much as I admire Tim it cannot negate pinoy basketball culture of that joy beating a top 10 basketball team (some say top 5 pa).

To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
    1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

    • Looks like the three month prep last year paying off with Junmar as he polished his game during that stint, Newsome had improved his pg skills..

      • The team hid some of their cards and only showed it last night. Hopefully, Coach Cone has more tricks up his sleeve.

I have a feeling Georgia will play more zone to disrupt the triangle. We have to be ready when this happens.

A low-scoring game will be to our advantage but we have to stay aggressive. Keep making it a defensive game, with better contributions from the bench.

Expect Georgia to target JMF in the PNR. Also expect them to put the cuffs on Brownlee.

I think Gilas will struggle early vs Georgia tonight because of the short rest (Georgia had a day off). And that Georgia day off they had all day to scout our strengths and weaknesses.

Hoping we continue the same intensity and have a strong start like that in the Latvia victory.
already expected OQT teams to PnR us to death, maybe Latvia is a team that does not hunt switches (unlike Slovenia).

but for 1 blown Junemar PnR defense, especially the Spain PnR/3-man PnR Latvia was doing in 4Q, the next possession, either Kai or Brownlee were able to avert it + Newsome fighting screens in the next possession, plus the luxury of the 20pt-lead buffer.

the bench, whether Tamayo or KQ, has to contribute.

It will be tough, but if they come in with the same mindset, energy and teamwork, I like our chances.
didn't understand as well why Latvia didn't play zone on us. just watching the Taiwan Mustangs game can give such a hint. anyway good for Gilas to get this win.

against a Georgia zone, we might expect an Amos sighting (hopefully he is up to task besides current drama) or more Oftana minutes.

Now we just need a healthy Edu and Kouame to be granted an exemption to play as a local and we can sustain that level of frontline talent for the entire game.

I hope SBP is working silently on Kouame’s exemption. Healthy AJ + local Ange will solve our PnR defense problems and maintain the defensive intensity plus rim protection.

                  • Kai is really the game changer we never had.

We still need a bench, more athleticism and ball handling since Newspme and CJ are shakey with the handling

That's the benefit of having a 2-month full time training camp during the June-July-August period. We've seen that with Gilas-2 of coach Chot in 2013 & 2014, as well as with Gilas-3 of coach Tab in 2015. Iba ang progress/improvement ng team if given ample time of training.

                      • Should Chairman Yao be thinking, this coach is perfect for our team composition (Tall bigs, tall forwards, less reliance to ailun guo like guards). Ive been looking everywhere for a right foreign coach to pirate but he is just living somewhere in Alabang

2023 Asian Games and 2024 is different.

Serious question, could a full force Lebanon who did not participate in Asian Games beat an RHJ - led Jordan team? Jordan was the strongest in the Asian Games. Bu I doubt they can matchup w Euro teams.

We beat them fair and square with Bohannon and Al Dwairi with our Team B.
I say it would have been a 50/50 game had a full-force Lebanon team squared off with a Jordan team with RHJ, Al Dwairi & Bohannon in tow. I think Lebanon & Jordan (both playing full force) teams are just about equal.

This is a day of upsets.

I want Philippines to beat Georgia. Those Georgians think that Latvia dropped their game intentionally against us (does not make sense). Beating them will put things into their senses and shut these Georgians up.
I can't believe some people think that Latvia deliberately lose its game against Gilas. Its like a full-force Gilas team deliberately losing a game against Malaysia or Singapore. That's unforgivable. If you're the Latvian head coach, you'll be crucified by Latvian basketball fans for deliberately losing against the Philippines.

I think the arrogance in Yao Ming is now coming into a realization that as Pinoy players get bigger & with better preparation, that once significant edge China has enjoyed over the Philippines in so many years has now vanished. China could no longer dominate the Philippines like it did in the 80's, 90's & 2000's. The thing is, China could no longer dominate Asian basketball like it used to. The Chinese are very much beatable by teams like Jordan, Lebanon, Japan, Philippines.
