  • Bahrain making the OQT over China and Korea is simply hilarious. FIBA needs to tweak their system.

Bahamian main guy Edgecomb is not even in the NCAA yet. Wow.

    • The news of Amos leaving Ateneo for Dela Salle,is now facing lots of criticsm from former teamates and fans.I see it as a business move,no different from top college athletes in the US going for the transfer portal to go to a school that can maximize their NIL. I still can't get over the fact that a gymnast like Olivia Dunne is the 3rd highest paid,IMO she's no better than the three girls that made it to Team Philippines for the Olympics. But then again here's what she looks like https://youtu.be/WfMr8ipDDLc?si=YjD3Q-b_rWo6QO-l
She definitely getting the money for her image and likeness not skills according from gymastics experts.Kai Sotto probably would made top 10,if he went the college route, endorsement both from US and Asia would probably land him in top 10,he would be making more money than what he's making now.

We should go for the kill then because we're more rested. Later it will either be Gilas-with-rust vs warmed up Latvia or fresh-and-rested Gilas vs tired-and-banged-up Latvia.

We have nothing to lose in this tournament. No need to play cards right or strategize, no need for mind games, since no one is expecting us to win and this is a very short tournament. Our best player in JB can't even make the NBA. We will only know how far this team can truly go if we go all out against Latvia then make the simple but necessary adjustments vs Georgia which is more winnable. We have to go into this tournament thinking maybe we can beat these teams if we put our full effort but totally detach from the outcome. We can't have a loser mentality otherwise it will just be a cycle every World-level tournament we participate in. No one is expecting us to reach Paris 2024 but let's at least try to breakthrough by playing to beat Latvia.

Also the confidence we get by how we fare vs Latvia going into the Georgia game will be very important. Can't really gauge where the team is if we rest JB Dwight and JMF. We need a cinderella run to go to Paris 2024, and if you watch the games, all teams play with a sense of urgency and pride right from the tip off. It's yet to be seen if we can keep up with their pace and level of execution, can't do that by limiting minutes and saving the best for last.
A 70% Strength of Latvia is already fine for them to beat Gilas… you know the truth… Don’t fool too much about that pride thing, all we need to think is to be smart… we may lose the battle vs Latvia but not the war itself… That game vs Georgia is more important if we want to advance next round… most of our players are in 30s already and playing back to back nights with only maximum of 18 hrs of rest between games… that’s demanding to our players, especially 35 year old Brownlee, 34 year old Junmar, 35 year old Newsome, Stamina problems of Kai and not 100% healthy Ramos… we made a mistake in past 2 OQTs that we prepare to much in France and Serbia but forgot to prepare the most important matches against more beatable teams in NZL and DR… same as last 2 OQTs, both NZL and DR have their rest prior the game vs Gilas while we came from hard fought match against France and Serbia, That cost us our players more tired and can’t perform to their best against NZL and DR…

Nope… that’s fine, China performed bad last World Cup and they are in bottom 5 last year, they are like “demoted” and they knew it… Korea declined last year in pre OQT, so that’s not Bahrain’s fault… even China and Korea in that position, they will get massacre there… Give it to Bahrain this time, they badly needed this competition to be a better team when they come back in Asian competitions… It just Asian basketball overall are weak…

Mavs is his day job, Slovenia is his why. Players these days are less durable because they rest too much (just look at Kawhi)
We hope many athletes will be inspired on Luka’s dedication to his national team.. Many athletes always declining to play for their national teams even they are healthy (cough Jokic)… actually for me, I’m more interested watching international basketball than club basketball, unless it is playing against other countries ball club…

to be fair with Jokic, he really missed his horses..LOL (i'm giving him a pass last year since he did play the nba finals and deserved a break)

He could stay anothrer year or two in college if he's not getting any NBA look, and anyways he might just be alot better basketball wise.

They earned that spot, blame korea and china for being weak or bitchy instead of discrediting a weaker team for putting in the effort to compete here and improve

That’s why Luka is a one of a kind athlete… He can decline this event since he barely have his rest after NBA finals but he loves his country… something that other athletes doesn’t have… even our locals doesn’t have that patriotism that Luka has (cough Lassiter, Baltazar)…. Slovenian government should have his statue on his hometown sooner or later… He is Slovenia’s GOAT…

Just leave Bahrain alone.. they earned it, it is also good for Asian basketball long term… as I said before, Lebanon, Iran and Jordan suffered the same fate Bahrain today after their world debut before… they all experienced 40 to 50 pt blowouts, but that is the key for them to be competitive back in Asia later on… Bahrain will be the same once they comeback in November qualifiers… remember, they give Korea, China before a hard time even without world experience, how much right now they have world experience after this.. they will be the dark horse for 2025 fiba asia cup next year…

                        • I havent seen Jokic be dominant in Fiba. He has a field day posting up against lighter defenders in the NBA. He has problems against stronger guys like Dwight and McGee before and recently KAT. The FIBA game has stronger bigs that can be thrown against Jokic. I think Jokic is a bit scared to be challenged in the Fiba stage.

Jokic made mincemeat out of KAT last year , though. It took this year for KAT, one of the softest bigs in the NBA up to this year's playoffs, to toughen up.

I think KAT's experience in the WC, being the guy of PR, helped him toughen up. However, I think KAT has some niggling injuries. He was totally neutralized by 6'7 PJ Washington.

                              • I like that tim cone said what needs to be said: they are there to win a tournament, and not a game. Indeed, as in college how can you be summa or magna cum laude if you are dropping ugly courses?? You have to excel, however you can.

And with good career results, after my wife and i studied in europe, we found out later that our kids have stronger biodata than us. Just because they treated the pursuit, and achievement, of excellence as something natural.

Hindi alam ng mga bopols iyan sa row por sa tabi ng basurahan, na hanggang kwentutan lang. Hindi pba ang fiba games.

You would like to build a team on the chemistry of loyalties and favoritism like a mafia as father and son coaches seyer do, or "deep select" a team that will do your country proud? Pwede ba sinasabi ng tandang seyer na "bahala na kayo"? Then why have a coach at all?

Our nt has to do the hard genius thing on the floor. No one hated losing more than michael jordan, which he admits. At the end of it all, he has the billion dollars to prove excellence always work.
