Official PBA measurement is 6'4 5/8 without shoes, which makes him a bit closer to 6'6 with shoes on. In other basketball sites like Realgm he was also listed 6'7.

    • As far as height is concerned, it's more cultural with our preference to Imperial feet plus inches which is obviously more subjective than Metric meters plus centimeters... plus the fact that the PBA, especially in the mid-90's, was very anal with height restrictions... then we got people like Quinito whose brain is still stuck in 1998 (2004 if being generous) and uses his sports editorial job to add 2 inches to every player he likes.

What I loathe are people with the absence of common sense... so between a content creator's thumbnail, Quinito's editorial piece 3 years ago, RealGM, and the official FIBA website... they'll believe whoever gave the tallest one.

That's why there have only been a handful of switchable players in Gilas (actually, si Norwood lang), they're boxed by their positions by height instead of Toroman-era train the 6'2 guy to lock down the 6'6 guy or Baldwin-era train the 6'7 guy to switch to the 6'3 guy. Cone at least has Oftana, Ramos, and KQ who aren't midgets but won't be at a severe disadvantage when they're on the court.

Story of Philippine basketball, really. Basketball has become positionless, we should also think that way, especially given our lack of size.

At least Cone likes size, and is trying to develop the perimeter skillset of guys like Quiambao, and like what Tab tried to do, get Dwight to handle PG duties. He thinks the triangle is positionless, so players have to be versatile.

An article a few months back stated Norman Black is training our kids to be Wings.

That way, you have all the skillset regardless of how tall you get .

Its really on the mother team to train the kids the right way. SBP only has them for so long. Its gonna take a massive overhaul of our system to change that.

This is what too much systematic like Montenegro or Finland do, if their gameplan will not work, they don’t have other options other than sharing the ball… this is what separates teams such as Georgia, Montenegro or Finland to say like Spain, Germany or France that has mixed of European and American style of play or teams such as Greece, Serbia or Slovenia that have superstars in their roster to bail it out if their gameplan will not work…

                    • DR is a good example that you don’t need to have an exceedingly tall team to be good.

Have enough size and be skilled.

DR and PR are good templates on how we should play as a team.

Their guards are a bit taller though. They dont have problem hitting open 3s. Their bigs are also like our homegrowns. They have decent pivoting skills. Diao doesnt seem to know the concept of a pivot foot or a spin move. The guy is stationary and tries to use just his length to get off a shot. He really needs a lot of training. He has potential though with his height and length.

We can hang both of those teams.. just they have more experience against Gilas when crucial minutes comes…

I think our 3 bigs can. But our guards dont. Amos who was suppose to be our SF just fouls. Unfortunately after Amos we only have 6 foot or 6’1 SFs. Are there really no other 6’3 and up SFs out there?

De Liano is supposed to be 6’4 but he looks short. When only 1 of our tallest 3 is on the floor we look really short. We cant stop anybody. Part of it is De Liano but the bigger part is having 6 foot SFs. Banal and Chua are too slow at this level they are not felt defensively.
