Horford, with his age, is highly unlikely to play in their national team. Quinones is a meh. KAT is the real deal there. adding Duarte alone can't change the fortunes for the Dominicans. the Dominicans were already beaten by Puerto Rico with only Tremont Waters (benchwarmer) as their sole NBA player.

Brazil, with or without NBA players, is still a good team. Not even a debate.

honestly there is no way we can win that tournament. Especially Latvia. assuming same core of their WC team plus Porzingis. usual players of the other teams also. if the PBA wants to concentrate to their league for now, give them. maybe college and overseas players will be ideal and set this as learning experience for future tournament. no more JC this time. unless if they want to spend 1M dollars again..Haha.

Brazil is also inconsistent bro… they always lose to Argentina… DR beat Argentina even w/o KAT… Argentina beat Brazil in their home court last Americup finals last year w/ all same rosters both teams… so don’t tell Brazil is better because game style of Latin Americans are different… DR can beat Brazil any day…

And, Dwight, Kai, RJ, SJ, Abando, Carl, Lopez, Quiambao, and Ange are FIBA veterans. AJ is capable too. Like sir DAdmiral said, and I echoed that sentiment, we need to use this to build for 2027.

Dalph Panopio also. i just do hope SBP working secretly Philipps, Koon and Ballungay papers for exemptions. not all needed to be in the basketball news for hype. i'm fine with that. we can field a team actually consisting overseas and college players. we can field QMB as naturalized if Ange is not available. we have so many options regarding players. but availability of the players and preparation is another.. hehe

Where is Argentina now actually? And where is Brazil now?

Which team did not qualify for the World Cup and the Olympics, let alone the OQT?

My point here is Brazil has never disppeared in the World Cup and that's consistency.

Per DR, their team with Horford, Duarte, Quinones and KAT is just a speculation until they play together.

Bro… there are more national teams who are good but also not qualified even in OQT… Turkey for example, they are also not qualified last WC and also not qualified for OQT this year… but do you think they are already worst in Europe right now? Nigeria also same… they not qualified for WC and OQT but we all know if they will send their best players, they can reclaim African glory anytime… Argentina was caught up on a bad luck in 2023… but it doesn’t mean they were weaker right now… Remember last year they are the americup champions… they beat Brazil in their homecourt on a same line up that they field today… honestly, outside of US and Canada.. other americup teams are all same level… Argentina, Brazil, DR, PR can beat each other… if they will play in a series… 90% of their match ups will go into 7 games… while Mexico and Venezuela are below tier after them… I think in terms of paper, Bahamas could be the 3rd best team in Americas right now, if they can play consistently every year… buddy hield is an all star level right now, Ayton is a good big man, Kai Jones also a good player (just surrounded by controversy this year) and Eric Gordon is a good complimentary to them..

But Argentina are better in terms achievement than Brazil all time… If consistency is your basis… Argentina is more consistent since 1980s… Brazil can’t even past 2nd round of any World Cup appearance, plus when was the last time Brazil played in Olympics? The last time they played when they are the host in 2016… they can’t qualify to the Olympics w/o hosting it… is that consistent?

"Brazil can't even past 2nd round of any World Cup appearance"

                    - Brazil only missed the 2nd once (2006). Imbento ka. Hahaha

                    - Again, Brazil never missed a World Cup.

"When was the last time Brazil played in Olympics?"

                    - Brazil last played in the Olympics in 2016 - not so long ago. They made it in 2012 and UK was the host. You talking about?

My point here is Brazil is still one of the top teams in the Americas, regardless of players.

But still beatable… your point is Brazil is more stronger than the likes of DR or PR even though they not.. and you say they are consistent, Argentina is more consistent than them… since 1980s, Argentina is always at Olympics, they won the gold in 2004… if I do betting, you can’t see Brazil overwhelm favorites… overall, Brazil is in tier B in Americas… the only tier A there is USA and Canada… Brazil, Argentina, DR and PR are all equal strength… they can be beaten each other… Bahamas is also in the conversation within Brazil and Argentina too because of their multiple nba players…

Remember, there are multiple teams right now are very good in basketball today, unlike 10 or 20 years ago… before, maybe 10-12 teams are very good in basketball, Now, I can name 30 or more teams who can beat top tier teams in international basketball… before, 12 teams in Olympics is enough, now I can’t say 12 teams is enough… remember, only one of Luka or Giannis might play in Olympics, they are in the same group playing in Greece.. that means a possible Greece vs Slovenia in the final round of OQT Greece … Spain might be beaten by Bahamas, especially if guys like Hield, Ayton, Gordon and Jones will play their best game in Bahamas uniform… Lithuania might be beaten too if they will be caught off guard by either Italy or Puerto Rico… If you look at the pairings of OQT… the easiest 1st round schedule is only Spain because they are grouped with Lebanon and Angola.. easy 1st round opponents for them, but other groups are tough already… Finland, Bahamas and Poland are tough… all of them deserve to be atleast in 2nd round… NZL, Croatia and Slovenia also tough… Brazil, Montenegro and Cameroon are also tough especially if NBA players of Cameroon will show up…

You did not get my point - teams should not rely on certain players.

DR is all about KAT. Take out KAT, DR will take a dip in terms of competitiveness.

When the Golden Generation of Argentina retired, they struggled to stay relevant in recent years.

This is where Brazil is commendable - no letdowns despite of change of guard. I do believe that no one in Asia-Pacific can beat this team except Australia

If we really prepare hard, we can win this tournament(mga 2 percent)... hahah hot take..as long as no kp in equation
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                            1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

Now if we form an early core ( coach and young players for 2027 WC) this July for OQT, we have around 80 % chance of making the 2027 WC and maybe a 10 % chance of making 2nd round of WC and making the 2028 Olympics outright as lone Asian Olympic qualifier. Now tell me which is more sensible planning ? this decision does not need to be experimented or proven , as time and time again it is long term planning that works ( period)

Keep a few players that are 30+ years of age just to backstop and guide our young players, but yeah, we need to focus on youth now. We have Dwight, AJ, Kai, RJ, SJ, Carl, who are good pieces with which to build a core. Then recall Oftana, Navarro, Malonzo, and then call up Schonny Winston and Ken Tuffin.

Problem is, like sir C2Hamm said, SBP have proven to be incredibly shortsighted. Hopefully, they play the long game this time.
