To be fair to Scottie he does have some good qualities with effort, hustle, energy but I agree that there are better guards out there that make more sense. In modern ball the true pg is going extinct but this team does need someone with poise, high iq and leadership.

    • Also I hadn’t seen it mentioned but Junmar also played in the sea games and his lack of rim protection was a big factor to why Gilas lost to Indonesia yet he’s still called up

i think it's best we move on from Kiefer and Thirdy. they've already showed their ceiling and it's not enough. Yes, they're gonna evolve as pros in their respective ball clubs in Japan but that doesn't necessarily mean they deserve another Gilas call up. They just don't fit the style of play Gilas wants to adopt in the long run. Same with Bobby ray parks & matthew wright, let them get paid in Japan and rest during the summer.

I should definitely watch more of him, I haven’t seen much only know he’s athletic 6’2 defender

Well, he's the PBA Finals MVP and an Asian Games gold medalist for a reason. Lowkey feel like him and Calvin Oftana should've gotten Scottie and Pogoy's spots in the World Cup.

I'm a huge fan of Scottie Thompson but CTC would've been scrambling to find a replacement if he knows Chris Newsome can't step up.

Scottie is that all-heart all-hustle guy with high IQ, plays hard like your typical Pinoy; while Chris is more steady, athletic and fundamentally sound player. He plays at his own pace and does not make boneheaded plays. Yes, has a slight glitch on his shot but as long as they're going in who are we to complain. Added bonus is he actually has a bag. Can score off the dribble, penetrate, multiple ways finishing at the rim and willing to share the ball.

In the PBA he's a star who has a green light, but with Gilas he learned how to buy into the system. Really humble and unselfish guy.

Newsome is good. But that hitch in his shot is infuriating. Its not bad enough to affect his midrange but he probably wont be open there at high Fiba level. But his 3 pt shot can be iconsistent because of it. But that would be his only weakness. Yes he is good. He has been good in the PBA finals and the Asian games finals.

                • Guys have to understand the coaching style of CTC. His expertise is in relationships. He aims to build chemistry, trust, bond between his players and then use that to make the sum better than the parts. Once a team reaches that height of trust and chemistry, it becomes formidable. Scottie is vital for his philosophy. Unless Scottie gets a bad injury, he's not leaving if CTC is the coach.

                  • Realistically none of the current guards are good enough to start and are old. They should have taken a younger guy just to try it out if he can hold up.

If your asian trying to compete internationally you need a pg who can breakdown the defense and take a lot of 3’s. Maybe RJ could be that but more than likely not might as well give him a shot .

Perez , Thompson, New are known at this point

Spot on... Those people here don't understand CTC philosophy.. They just bringing their favorite players even they are not on CTC list... We all know politics inside the camp but for sure CTC also have his hands full that he wants to be in his pool... Heading or Abando are good players but CTC also saw what makes like Oftana, Quiambao, Newsome ahead than those two in his eyes... It's not all about talent... CTC wants to have a best team assemble come 2027... Si Clarkson nga eh di priority ni CTC eh... Take note he's a bonafide NBA star...

Because we don't have plenty of quality bigs (eligible only) that we have outside JMF, Kai and Edu... Heck, Japeth is always considered anytime because we don't have quality eligible bigs yet... Hope that Geo Chiu improves and Balti again get his nod in the future Gilas stint...

Did you hear that with your idols? Whether you like it or not, He will likely join the team, maybe on November.. Deal with it... I don't care what are your feelings against me.. You can't change the fact that CTC is the coach and he will pick whatever he wants...
Always dragging Tim’s name when all we’re asking is how on earth is Pogoy a better defender than Heading. You have a penchant of muddling the discussion and skirting the topic instead of defending your claims with pertinent details/facts. Walang connect yun pagiging coach ni Tim sa defensive abilities ni Pogoy at Heading. Delulu asf.
