It just the magic of Tab Baldwin and lastly Brain Goorjian hide his weakness to be effective, And you know CTC, He's not type of coach that just rely on shooting, CTC wants 2 way type of player, Don't be surprise if CTC will likely tap Lassiter than Heading... As we said, If Heading is around 6'5, He's definitely a shoo-in.. What if Heading is in off-night, Can he play D against 6'5 above off guards? Did you saw my comment i like Pogoy? As far as i know, It's CTC wants him...
    Yeah, right.

Latvia will kill us even without Porzingis. They finished fifth in the World Cup for a good reason

To be very clear, the Asian Games gold was a fckng miracle we'll take but was all down to well-defended shots going in. Silver would have been more than enough to make the country proud given the context of that competition.

I'm only rooting for this team because of KQ, but nothing from their previous performaces against a low-level Hong Kong squad and a depleted due to injury and fatigue Taiwan squad suggests they're on the same level as a Latvia squad that wiped the floor with Lebanon by nearly 30, upset both Spain and France, hung with Canada for a half until SGA did his Justin Brownlee impression in the 3rd (lol), held a basketball clinic against Brazil, and was a buzzer beater away from knocking out the eventual World Champions Germany in the quarters after coming back from 14 with 6 minutes left.

Partida, homecourt pa nila so I hope there won't be an over-analysis of what Gilas couldn't do as the levels of the game will show that Latvia will get a Euroleague environment that our boys rarely hear, pass the ball faster, run actions reacting to the defense instead of calling set plays (even if it means running them over and over again because it works against lower-level teams), never miss open shots, and have an entire five of switchable players who can defend mutiple positions on the court every time.
For this OQT, I won't be expecting wins. I'll just be watching for the following:

          1. Team defensive scheme with only Newsome, Dwight, and JB as the only elite defenders, and without an elite interior defender (AJ)
          2. Kai's development on defense
          3. Performance of Carl, Quiambao, and Mason in this stage (just added this)
          4. Defense of CJ and Oftana in the perimeter
          5. Carl and Quiambao's team defense
          6. Shooting of Carl, Oftana, Mason, Quiambao, and JB
          7. Can June Mar not be a minus in long minutes?
          8. Lineup combinations

Just progress and aspects of individual players. But, after this, I hope Cone and SBP can reassess the lineup composition and fill holes. Adjustment of scheme too.

I think 95% of all Pinoy IBNers here know & understand that the top 10 basketball countries in Europe is at least 20 pts. better than Gilas. Unless of course Gilas has a Jordan Clarkson in tow like what happened in last year's FIBA World Cup in which we lost close game vs. Italy.

I think almost everybody naman here at IBN have no illusion that Gilas has a very good chance against Latvia. Kung sa boxing yan, our chance of winning vs. Latvia is a lucky punch.

Well for me, what I'm really curious to see is how Gilas plays without a natural point guard.

I'm also curious to see how Quiambao plays as a wing. Would he be able to create his shots off the dribble? Would he be able defend the opposing team's wings?

The games vs. Hongkong & a depleted Taiwan team last February weren't a real test for Quiambao knowing how inferior those teams are, especially the depleted Taiwan team.

                • With regards to pogoy or any other pba player good in defense, we have to remember that a lot of things done in the pba/philippines are considered as fouls in FIBA. Plurs yeah the tiers/levels in basketball

one of the reasons why Yeng’s fiba team was a disaster.

Well, the only reliable defender in that team turned out to be 34yo Gabe.

That was one of the least capable teams we sent to an international competition in recent memory.

It’s not about beating Latvia. It’s how the team and players compete against a Euro team. A team with height, good shooting and fundamentals.

Tabs amateur team perforned way beyond expectations against Serbia without Dwight their best player. How can TC, SBP and SMC convince us that this pool can compete if it will perform worse than the previous Gilas iteration?

It is TC’s chance to prove that his lineup and system is the right one. If they perform bad, why change the lineup?

Just talk about pure basketball discussion and not based on favoritism.. what will Heading can do outside his shooting? This is just pure basketball sense especially CTC as coach.. Even in his Ginebra team has shooter named Pessumal but he didn’t used him because lack of defensive capability… Heading was also blow by last finals game defending Arakji… imagine that is Arakji… Can he defend against world level teams sa such Latvia and their best guard Zagars… Pogoy atleast doing some effort on defense in some stretches… Tim cone will not request Pogoy if he didn’t like him… You just a hater… you
