To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..

Also he missed out on the recent first window then he just pops out of nowhere again for this OQT lmao. I don't blame him but it is just funny how he is always available for big tournaments yet for regular tournaments he would not be available, although in the Asian Games it was understandable because of his heart condition but for the other tournament I don't think it is just coincidence. But then again, if he is only practice player for the team now then it is okay.
Hahahaha thats why I think IBn gave up or already knew what you said..

People cite players' inability to join previous tournaments as a valid excuse not to invite them to the pool but it seems certain players are exempted to it.

          FYI
The SBP can't suggest Robert Bolick to the Gilas pool.

Trans: in short tim cone's hands are tight in terms of player selection
What's the meaning? Al Chua does not like Bolick and Abando? Why Abando, though? I thought he has the Letran connection with Chua?

Maybe Letran fall off? Chua might not like Abando's decision going overseas to play professional ball...

Politics is too big in the PBA / SBP camp... It seems PBA doing consequence those who going abroad... Just like "You want to be part Gilas? Then play PBA"... Even MVP favorites Ravena bros were not on CTC's wishlist.... One thing bothers me is that if this is already SMC controlled Gilas team, Why not include Ahamnisi, Tolentino, Navarro, etc... on Gilas pool? If they don't want overseas players then why not tap players from their camp for additional body...

and you compare the stats between the 2 leagues?
NBL 1 is not the main league of Australia... It's like their G-League.. Indonesia played couple of games there for their preparation for 2022 FIBA Asia cup and last year's SEAG and beat some NBL 1 teams.. So that means NBL 1 competition and PBA competition is almost same, Maybe PBA is much higher competition...

players playing in nbl 1 are future nbl players, future aussie talents, nbl players, some borderline talents and imports.. DON’T underestimate the level of play here in nbl 1.. It might be the semi pro league but don’t underestimate the level of talents here..

I saw an article that they tried to sign Parks as a replacement but to no avail. I don't understand, Free agent si Parks currently right? So no commitment at all? What's the matter, bat parang nung SMC na may hawak, mas magulo at mapride selection ng players? Haha

I don't understand people here reacting to my opinion that Stockton should be considered for Gilas as a "prospect" (prospect pa lang po mga sirs). I never said like Stockton is a shoo-in for Gilas. Malaki po pinagkaiba noon.
Point we’re trying to make it here is don’t get deceived by pba players performance and say “oh he can be a gilas prospect”

though let’s be honest, none of us are expecting a miracle this OQT, just hope that it wont be as embarrassing similar to 2019 FIBA WC
                            Tumpak. +1 to this.

To be very clear, the Asian Games gold was a fckng miracle we'll take but was all down to well-defended shots going in. Silver would have been more than enough to make the country proud given the context of that competition.

I'm only rooting for this team because of KQ, but nothing from their previous performaces against a low-level Hong Kong squad and a depleted due to injury and fatigue Taiwan squad suggests they're on the same level as a Latvia squad that wiped the floor with Lebanon by nearly 30, upset both Spain and France, hung with Canada for a half until SGA did his Justin Brownlee impression in the 3rd (lol), held a basketball clinic against Brazil, and was a buzzer beater away from knocking out the eventual World Champions Germany in the quarters after coming back from 14 with 6 minutes left.

Partida, homecourt pa nila so I hope there won't be an over-analysis of what Gilas couldn't do as the levels of the game will show that Latvia will get a Euroleague environment that our boys rarely hear, pass the ball faster, run actions reacting to the defense instead of calling set plays (even if it means running them over and over again because it works against lower-level teams), never miss open shots, and have an entire five of switchable players who can defend mutiple positions on the court every time.

I get your point bro. That there are certain PBA players who did very well in the PBA but wasn't effective playing for Gilas and examples are Garry David, Matthew Wright, RR Pogoy.

My point is that how will we know unless we tried such players in the national team? Kaya nga I asked you if what's in Stockton game that made you conclude that he won't be effective playing for Gilas. What is your basis?

That is why I cited the case of Calvin Abueva in which very few people (perhaps almost none) predicted that he would be effective for Gilas even as he was really doing well in the PBA. I remember people here at IBN pointed to Abueva's suspect outside shooting & being an undersized small forward as among his biggest downside playing for the national team (which I myself stongly agreed). Yet Abueva proved us wrong in 2015 when he played for Gilas. And it was great that coach Tab Baldwin took the gamble on Abueva. Coach Tab tried Abueva & it was worth the gamble. Well, perhaps the great coach Tab Baldwin is, he most likely saw something in Abueva that we as ordinary basketball enthusiasts didn't.

The same is almost true with Terrence Romeo when he was named by coach Tab in the Gilas pool in 2015. Some people thought Romeo won't be effective in the national team becoz of his invidualistic style of play. This despite of Romeo's eye-pooping stats in the PBA. Yet Romeo proved to be very effective playing for Gilas in 2015. He & Abueva are among the vital components of the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship silver medalist Gilas team.

That is why it is very difficult for ordinary basketball enthusiasts like most of us here to simply conclude that this certain player who is doing well in the PBA won't be effective playing for the national team. We have no way of knowing until that player gets to play for the national team. Maybe we could make a rational assessment on certain players becoz of some glaring weakness in their game like suspect outside shooting, or being undersized for the position he plays, or being a poor defender or being too individualistic, but what about if such player doesn't have that glaring weaknesses?

My take is, for those Pinoy players that are doing well in the PBA or in any other leagues, we tried them out playing for Gilas. They might be another Jeff Chan, or RDO, or Castro, or Norwood, or Pingris, or Abueva, or Romeo, or Dwight Ramos, or Calvin Oftana. Now if they will turn out to be another Matthew Wright, or Garry David or RR Pogoy, then so be it. At least they were given the chance to show what they can do as national team players.

We have no way of telling unless those players are tested playing for the national team. There are lots of tournaments out there - Asian Games, SEA Games, Asia Cup, World Cup & it's qualifying games, Jones Cup, where we can test our potential national team players.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV
