The issue now is accepting draft applicants that have played pro 3 years abroad because it'll entail another one of those special draft bullshits where a Thirdy, Abando, Ramos, Alvano, Belangel, Abbarientos, Gutang, Dave Ildefonso, or Satan forbid... a Kai Sotto will end up in Ginebra ot TNT after another one of those lopsided trades post-conference.

As fucking stupid as the PBA was, teams are past the point of drafting 24-year olds and keeping them on the bench while they develop their 27-year old young player by sharing minutes with their 30-year old starter while making sure their 34-year old 10 year veteran is getting paid like an All-Star... the fact of the matter of that the league is fighting for survival after years of eating their own shit.

It's actually better for Philippine basketball that those who know their value play abroad where they play more games, get better training, and are exposed to higher levels of competition. Maiwan na dito ang latak.
By "age old eligibility", BJ wasn't referring to PBA regulations regarding age-limit or collegiate experience. He was saying that the restriction for not allowing a naturalized player--i.e. Ange--is age-old or very out-of-date already. Something that PBA should try to revisit, especially in this era where we can see growth in NP number.

sorry my post was intended to AK34 possible application on the next drafting.

that is why I posted that "tweak" word.
Ultimately, his naturalization was made to look political as this was done when Senator Gordon was highly unpopular. Everyone of them from Jeff Moore to Bennie Boatwright, by law, don't even qualify to be naturalized. If anyone in this piece of shit country can get away with reclusion perpetua with a simple quit claim (blackmail obviously mandatory)... what's stopping a senator/congressman from saying hey, this dude is good enough to help our basketball team win... let's exempt him from living here a decade and give him a Filipino passport right now. They're not doing it for every good basketball player here (like college FSA's) that's not a natural-born citizen. Don't get me started on the basis of citizenship because we all know who should and shouldn't be Filipino. I'm all for the idea of "tweaking" in that context, but you're excluding the dozens more every few years who aren't as fortunate as AK34.

      • If somehow there's a benefit in acknowledging Brownlee as a local for Ginebra (or anything besides being an import). I think it's a good chance PBA will lean on finding a way to change the current policy. Maybe CTC would want Boatwright with Ginebra to further familiarize him with his system while still having Brownlee in the lineup? PBA can say something like if you've been naturalized as a Filipino for 2 years, then you can be considered as a PBA local.

im all for it, but this has to be thought of carefully. i raised this before, we only have JB and Ange as active NP who can play in the PBA if for some reason they allow them. 3 if we add Bennie. I think Dray can just spot up in games but he is on the downhill already. so 4, what do you think the other teams who cant get their services do? start paying politicians to naturalise players??
also, if PBA starts looking at them as locals, salary would have same restrictions as local. fine, they can go under the table for the difference, but then every other rules that applies to local will apply to them as well. and they would need to stay in the country for almost the whole year since PBA has 3 conference. ok ba sa kanila yun? im happy if it would be, but if they were only naturalised to play for certain games pls a conference per year, than that might not sit well with them.

that's a nice gesture if they do that.

Better start something,Ivory Coast is sending signals that they might want him in their NT,and the way no one really wants him Gilas,he might feel the writing is on the wall.

Ange's problem is that he's too good for the PBA but unlike Brownlee he isn't good enough to make that of an impact for our NT. He'll never be anything more than a backup by the way things are

Ange had a rough start with Chots system and then got a major injury in practice. Buthe seems to have settled well in Cones system. He starts for his team in France who are now in the playoffs. He is actually doing well. SMC is prioritizing their guys JB and Boatwright. But as I said this is contingent on Kais continued development and Edus good health. We know we cant take Edus good health as a given. Kai has been improving in the B league. Hi level Fiba is a different animal. More physical and higher stakes.

If that's the case, Will SBP granted him a request to transfer? I don't think SBP will allow Ange to transfer... He will also give up his passport too.. Our senate and congress invest their signings, time and more importantly documents to grant him as Naturalized Pinoy... He can still play for us in Asian games or in SEAG BTW...

                  • Malonzo's out for the OQT.

We will have to call up a good defensive wing. Maybe it's time we recalled Will Navarro and Ken Tuffin. As of now, Dwight and Brownlee are the only decent defensive wings we have in the current 14-man pool.

JB will probably play PF most of the time. Unless healthy is Edu enough or Tamayo can hold his own. That leaves Dwight and Newsome as good wing defenders. But I think they are small by Euro standards. This takes me back to Tabs team that without Dwight almost defeated Serbia IRC.

What if they never played him? Will they grant him a release since it looks like he doesn't fit in Cone's plan at all.

The backup who's better all around player than the starting guy.If CTC thinks he doesn't fit in his future plans and he's not gonna play Ange even in SEA or Asian Games, then release the man, maybe France will be interested in naturalizing him.

Edu might not even play,JB won't be able to keep up with the tall stretch 4,past injuries, age and playing very long seasons is gonna catch up with him.Gilas hopes Edu is at least 80% can play long minutes,so that JB can actually play a more natural SF position.Dwight at 6'4 is good enough to defend at 2 or small 3,its his speed that I'm worried about,as long as he doesn't face someone who's a speed freak he'll be ok.

Realistically, Marcio or Arvin. Arvin's 28 and a defensive liability man-to-man, while Marcio will be 37 by the OQT. But they're the ones Cone trusts, e. If Arvin will be behind JB, Oftana, and Dwight at that spot, OK lang naman.
