With Wemby being the team’s numero uno from this edition of the Draft, I will temper my expectation for now because he ain’t proven anything yet on the same level as idol Tim.
I ain’t ridin’ on the Wemby bandwagon nowadays, too much passenger in the bus makes me feel uncomfy, I’d rather root on the guys who’s not in overall radar, young dudes that I've been watching for quite sometimes now…the likes of 6’8 SF Jarace Walker of the Cougars that was picked 8th by Wiz but eventually shipped at Indiana, 6’8 Guard Jeff Howard of the Wolverines that was a 11th pick overall by the Magic and 6’7 do it all Jaime Jacquez, Jr. of the Bruins that was pick 18th by the Heat.
Same here. Been a Heat fan since the DWade days back in '05.

The Spurs will always be my adopted West team whenever the Heat are out of the playoffs. Their FO is top-notch.

GSW paid too much for chris paul, they could have just waited for washington to waive paul and sign him once he clear the waivers.

atleast Washington got a future 1st rd pick from this trade

May be they just want to get rid of Poole and his salary(120M 4 yrs?)

I find it interesting that after Adams the next NZ eligible player ( King) drafted didn't go through the US college route , But next star NBL then Ignite. The latter for international players to me is a better pathway

I think in 2 years, the Spurs may actually consider trading for Poole to maximize Wembanyama. Developing years.

It seems they were desperate for an expiring contract to allow them to sign Green. Not sure if Paul was the best around.

                Why do you need Poole?

You already have Branham, Vassell, and Keldon.

point taken, paul as a expiring contract is a great movable asset, if things dont work out they could easily ship him out gor pieces (though they might need to add a pick and absorb a bad contract to make things work).

Draymond being a UFA makes matters worse for GSW, some GM will probably overpay draymond, houston and detroit for instance have tons of capspace and needs a veteran leader

Spurs need a lead guard (not a traditional PG) the trio above are all.wings
Draft capital , the Spurs have 7 1st round picks for nexr 3 years, they'll use on Poole or Herro as a lead guard , and absorb his last or last 2 year contract, to maximize Wembanyama window . This of course is assuming no young lead guard pans out for the Spurs

I actually see Wembanyama and Sochan having secondary play making duties, Wemby as a hub ala Sabonis and Sochan ala Dreymond /Simmons, as such want a lead guard who can space the floor and isn't ball heavy to be effective.

That said, GSW's time maybe up. Poole for all his fault last year, contributes more than CP3 at this point. CP3 would strictly be a backup as 2 short PGs with substandard D can't play together. I think they got lucky with their last 'ship. This season, they couldn't win on the road. That was a major red flag for them. Wigs was the biggest reason they won the 'ship aside from Curry IMO. But IRC Poole also contributed. But with Poole cold the recent season, the 2nd team couldn't be as effective. CP3 is just a too on the ball player IMO to do that for the 2nd team.

I think Wigs needs to have more responsibility on offense for GSW to still compete. Without that, we might see the end of an era.

JP3 contributes more to losing with his TOs and defense. CP3 still averaged double double per 36 and shot 38% 3P vs JP3's 33%. CP3 received an all defense vote this year and is 100 spots above JP3 in Defensive EPM. If CP3 has sub-standard D, what does that make JP3? JP3 contributed in their last championship but so did OPJ, Belli, DLee and a healthy GP2.

The CP3 trade is a WIN because they will have financial flexibility in season 2024-25 onwards and they removed the guy who is TO prone while adding one of the best in not turning the ball over.

Ok JP is not particularly good defender but he is still 6’4 and Paul is around 6 or 6’1. CP3 and Steph together will be eaten alive on D. CP3 is old. How many playoff games was he not available in the end because he was injured? Lastly, CP3 is one of the most on the ball player ever. He made some adjustments with the Suns. But it will be another level if he plays with Steph.

that's because they will be past the 2nd apron that will come in effect on July onwards. there's a lot of penalty but 1 big 1 is a team over the 2nd apron cannot aggregate players to get 1 player. they cant give 2 or more players and get only 1 in return. etiher 1 on 1 or they give 1 player and multiple will go back. because CP3's final year in the contract, 24-25 is non-guaranteed, he will be prime trade value for a team who wants to shed salary by that time. poole's contract is still long and does not give them flexibility, not even going to his relationship with Draymond.

Boston is doing this, shoring up big contract players, for same purpose. its easier to trade a big contract for smaller ones, than trying to look for all star when you are only restricted to 1 on 1 trades. the salaries are still moving since FA signing will only commence next week but if you check team salaries at hoops hype, 6 teams are already over it and can do what suns are doing, getting the big contract before july 1.
