A week after the FIBA WC was finished, he was in Japan already to negotiate his contract with Hiroshima… most of here knows that Kai was payed during WC but the topic is Asian games, and he is not available already…
do you even know how to read?

the point i'm making is that it doesn't matter if the bleague won't allow him to play or not since kai has already shown that he will abandon a team and a league just to get another contract.

that's why i said "he snubbed ignite and the gleague", meaning if he can leave an nba affiliate league high and dry what more the bleague?

and why would kai risk his bleague contract? the same reason he risked his gleague stint - more money. common sense, if hIs bleague contract is USD300K and sbp will pay him USD400K to play in the asian games do you think he won't jump ship?

    learn to read robert

One poster said it might be remy Martin… actually that make sense… last month he was in the country and he wants to play, and he was in the original 60 man roster… and then suddenly the fire of martin’s willingness to play was gone.. if he wants to play then that was his chance to play… like Mikey, he is certified US NCAA div.1 baller and for sure his price is high…

let's put it this way, no one will bankroll gilas if he won't get a nice roi for all his troubles so chances are someone out there is making money

now if i were to play mark cuban then i'll tell everyone straight up that i highly doubt it that all the major nba stars played for a per diem only especially the naturalized ones

maybe to the likes of luka and jokic and giannis money doesnt matter as long as they represent the motherland but i'm sure there are other players there who will ask for compensation or in the case of team usa a "stipend" provided they medal (USD100,000 is what they got paid during the olympics)

I think a certain level of payment is expected for the NPs that originally had no connection to us. Why would Douthit or Blatche play for us otherwise? Apparently, even JC does not play out of nationalism. I don't think NBA players get anything beyond per diem. Even Euro league players. Insurance is the only significant expense and IRC it is shouldered by the NBA itself for the NBA players.

whoever is bankrolling the team, either PLDT or SMC. i dont know if the law gives a specific amout for the allowance, but i dont think its sufficient because because we have heard and read from athletes of other sports that they struggle if they just go with the government allowance. they need sponsor to pre properly.

The players and the public are being conditioned to be selfless and play for free. Again when they do play for free, where will the money go?

Hopefully there's a benevolent official that is investing that money prudently so that in the future when a national athlete is in need (similar to Samboy) there are funds ready to make sure they are taken care of. Fortunately, Samboy's ex-wife is very well-off.

Guys like Mascarinas have to use their own money to help former national athletes who have fallen in hard times, because so many of them are neglected in old age.

This is how telenovela-style nonsense controls narratives.
we have to assume that the sbp has funding for such things. remember they also gave the 2013 silver winning gilas team bonuses.

having said that, i wonder why ricky vargas talked to longhair about players asking for the moon? is longhair officially taking over al panlilio's role? i mean shouldn't it be panlilio making the call if someone has to be paid or not? unless there's already a changing of the guards?

so in that case the sbp should not have a difficult time recruiting players since its out in the open that they "pay for play"

I mean, yes players should be given athlete's allowance and some form of insurance for their play.. but to flat out ask an exorbitant amount is just wrong especially if it is masked by so called "love for the country"..

now I understand why Alfrancis Chua even before the Asian Games was telling media that the players chosen didn't ask for anything.. I think those 2 players triggered him.. it is just Ricky Vargas who just had the balls to stir the pot and tell the story..

Also, from the press conference, I noticed that it was Ricky Vargas who called the specific players and not Alfrancis Chua.. this means they come from the MVP group.. so Mikey Williams yes.. another player from the MVP camp.. it is not Kai Sotto for sure.. alam naman na ng lahat he was paid for the World Cup appearance.. what's new.. so this is a different player coming from the MVP camp.. not Balti as Tim Cone said he will not choose him from the very first conference.. so another fil-am for sure from the MVP Camp..

OR and I think this is the answer - schonny winston - he is part of the 37 player list...

we all know his drama with la salle..
the question is how much is the "moon"? is USD400K asking for the moon?

Mikey is already in tail end of his career… I don’t think any Asian leagues or smc will take him… actually I don’t care if he doesn’t want to play for gilas.. he’s not part of it in the first place and Gilas can find better players than him anyway… and anyone has a right to decline to play for gilas or wants a paycheck for playing in gilas… that is their rights… we are no North Korea that is under dictatorship… SMC people also did this in 2015, when they declined coach tab to play for gilas, that cause our chance to get a spot in 2016 Olympics… but did we hear coach tab blamed any pba personnel or smc for not playing for gilas? Those people from SBP and PBA always want drama.. they are all same as chot reyes.. all drama, no flavour…
