Oftana gained a lot of muscle recently. He was utilized by Chot as a spot up shooter on the corner. I hope Tim Cone gives Oftana more freedom kinda like what Yeng Guiao did when Oftana was at NLEX.

      • Gilas pilipinas can reach the semifinal round of the men's basketball tournament.

25 years ago was the last time team philippines won a medal in the Asian games of the men's 5x5 tournament.

This could be Oftana's breakout performance in international basketball. With the way he played yesterday versus the LG Sakers, I can see the confidence that he has in his game now.

If he has a breakout performance in this AG,then he should be in all the OQ games.

I hope Coach Yeng can get him again. The 1st 5 of Mamu, Gabe, Oftana, Villegas, and Datu would be a championship team.

                • So guys the tournament format for this Asian Games basketball competition wud be similar to that of the ongoing FIBA Asia U-16 tournament.

So for instance if Gilas emerges as the No. 1 team in Group C, it will automatically be going to the quarterfinals & wud be facing the winner of the No. 2 team of group A (most likely Sauudi Arabia) vs. No. 3 team of group B (most likely Mongolia) game. Hence, this would be an easier route for Gilas.

If Gilas settles as the No. 2 team in Group C, we will face the No. 3 team of Group D (either Indonesia or Qatar) in the qualification for the quarterfinals game. If we win that game, we will be facing the No. 1 team of Group A which most likely would be Iran, in the quarterfinals. Now, I would always prefer facing Iran in the quarters than facing host China or Korea. I just feel that Gilas has the edge over the current Iran team which no longer has Hamed Haddadi & Samad Bahrami in its fold.

I’m just glad Australia and NZ aren’t around.

Yeah. They aren't supposed to be in the Asian Games in the 1st place becoz they are not part of Asia.

Agreed. Considering the depleted talent level of the other competing countries and us basically having two naturalized level players, the full support of the PBA and Gilas being coached by the supposed GOAT PBA coach, anything less than a semifinal finish will be a disappointment. The PBA's reputation is currently at stake.

They were invited though, but they declined.

Israel, technically in the Asian continent is expelled to compete because of political reasons. Guam, which is closer to Asia than Australia and NZ did not receive any invitation.

imo its just a margin of error for us.. if we finish on top good but if not, it still atough game given the team has faced some competition against Iran B
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                            1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

                            • Al Panlilio's incompetence is just too much & unbearable. He is looking like even worse than an On-the-Job Training (OJT) out there. Pure nalang kapalpakan.

Unfortunately, this is something that averaged Pinoy basketball fans usually would not know. All the averaged Pinoy fans know is to bash or blame Chot Reyes, but the truth is, Al Panlilio & some SBP officials are even worse than Chot.

Can't believe I defended him putting his( unqualified) son in the youth team instead of other players. Maybe that's the first red flag that went unnoticed
