To be fair, it's the only thing they are good at.

Remember Panlilio blaming Tab? Yeah, right. It's not like Al and his PBA lackeys were supportive.

Jordan probably won't have star center Ahmad Al Dwairi in the Asiad as he probably is on training camp now with his Turkish pro team. Bahrain's top local player Hamodda would probably not play in the Asiad as its back to school now in US college.

Japan is sending a developmental team so I don't expect such team to be anywhere near the level of its national team-A. Iran isn't as strong as it used to be some years ago. For one, legendary center Hamed Haddadi has already retired from the national team. China is playing without Zhou Qi & naturalized player Kyle Anderson.

I say, if coach Tim Cone can mold this Gilas team into a defensive oriented one, I think we can beat any team in the Asiad.

        • I think this lineup is still good enough to reach the semis or even the final. They already have chemistry, so prep time's not that big of an issue.

JB and Ange provide a big boost to the lineup as well. JB's all-around play, and Ange's defensive presence, man.

As if the blaming & bashing Chot has received weren't enough

But I think Al Panlilio deserves the bashing & blaming as well. In fact I want Panlilio to be held accountable for all these mess.

            • Guys, what's the format of the basketball competition in the Asiad?
If Gilas emerge among the top 3 in group C, who will it face in the 2nd round/phase? Is it the top 3 teams of group D or the top 3 teams of A?

Japan are sending youngsters, including Yuto Kawashima, plus a lot of decent B.League players in their prime or approaching their prime (8 of them are 25 and older).

This, Panlilio and Vargas had escaped pubic scrutiny for so long. Chot is just 1 piece of the puzzle.

After the group stage, it's straight to knockouts.

If Gilas finish 2nd, we face the third-placer of Group D, which is either Qatar or Indonesia (let's face it, Japan and SoKor are top 2 in that group) for the quarters spot, then we face the first placer of group A (most likely Iran). If we top the group, we get an automatic quarters spot, and face either the 2nd-placer of Group A (most likely Kazakhstan) or the 3rd placer of Group B (either Mongolia or Hong Kong).

We also got a good No. of defensive oriented players on the team - Ross, Newsome, Perez, Kouame, Lasseter.

That's a defensive nightmare of a lineup. Brownlee and Japeth can contribute to the defense too. Cone loves him some defense.

To be fair to Cone, he's improved defensively in the international setup. From giving up a high 3-point percentage against Indonesia (40-something, if I remember correctly) in the 2019 SEA Games to being one of those who coached us to a top 10 defense in the World Cup.

That's becoz an averaged Pinoy basketball fan has a limited knowledge about what is exactly going on with Gilas & SBP.

And most Pinoy bloggers aren't that knowledgable about what has been going on with Phi basketball. These bloggers should be helping in educating & make Pinoy basketball fans aware of what is going on with Phi basketball. Unfortunately, most of these bloggers lack wisdom & understanding.
