Having a defensive specialist point guard in the Asian Games-bound Gilas team in Chris Ross would be crucial especially as Gilas faces Bahrain with a dead shot point guard in 5-foot-10 Mustafa Rashed. Then there's 6-foot-3 ace point guard Freddie Ibrahim of Jordan who is another player Gilas has to watch out for when it clashes with Jordan.
But Chris Ross would be needing help from the likes of Chris Newsome & CJ Perez in neutralizing those two point guards of Bahrain & Jordan. What I like about this Asiad-bound Gilas roster is that it has dependable defensive players at the guard & wing spots as Marcio Lassiter & Iskati Thompson are decent defensive players as well.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

The good thing about the replacements is that 4 of them - CJ Perez, Lassiter, Ross & Arvin Tolentino, are holdovers of the Gilas SEA Games team. Hence, there's already some established chemistry among them & the likes of Brownlee, Oftana & Newsome.
Then there's the Ginebra established chemistry with Brownlee, Iskati, Japeth & Arvin Tolentino ( he is a former Ginebra player) & & the San Miguel Beermen chemistry with Ross, Perez, Lassiter & Junmar.
I think familiarity wise, most of these players are very much familiar with each other."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. I got a feeling that we will not get through stage group… we will finish with lone win & 2 losses…. Win against Thailand. Losses to Jordan and Bahrain…
Both Jordan and Bahrain are practicing for more than 3 months now and that’s their big plus…. With Bahrain we should be wary about Zee Hamoda, Mustafa Rashed and of course their NP Wayne Chism… Jordan with RHJ is always a threat but him playing with Al- Dwairi will make it a hell for us…

One aspect we need to improve upon badly: three point shooting

Ill take this games one game at a time.. if we wn on bahrain chances that we will be here to contend and the game against Jordan is something, would they select to win it and have an easy qf or lose it to avoid host in semis. Unlike what Robert is implying to u16.. I will take the outright qf rather than avoiding china..If the goal is to win gold you go for the marbles Pinoy fans will appreciate a podium finish..
Bahrain is dangerous because they have pba import level big while Thailand didnt have one..
Bahrain is a good team it isnt a Hammoda Chism show, I think their tiop scorer is a guardTo becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.
