My reason for the Starting 5 is because I believe TC will go for familiarity in the opening minutes. The Ginebra and SMB boys definitely know his system. I can see Abueva, Kouame, Pogoy, and Mo coming off the bench the most. Perkins is a dark horse and could surprise us. If he can defend the opposing teams' SG/SF players, then he's a revelation.
Oftana will probably get the least playing time. His most recent outings with Gilas haven’t been impressive and was barely a factor. Not sure if that was simply Chot's coaching but let's see. Maybe TC can utilize him better as our pure shooter.

One day, I would actually love to see Ange play alongside AJ and Kai. Those three bigs could actually form a legit international caliber “no-fly zone”. A credible, rim-protecting Gilas frontline, did anyone even imagine?
Meanwhile, when in his twilight playing years, Kuya Abai can contribute to their growth by instructing them on the finer points of playing offense at the post.

While this is just Asian games I still have doubts on JF's defense even at this level. We have two NPs but JB is coming off a surgery and we know Kouame is not 100%. So I think our two NPs are limited in their capability of compensating for JFs defense. I don't think JB will start or at least in the first few games. I think Perk or Abueva will start at SF. Junemar may start but I think in the important games Kouame will play the vital minutes. Unlike with Edu though I dont think Kouame and JF can play together but we'll see.

He doesn't have the handles of Abueva. What meakes Abueva capable of playing the small forward position is his handles. This despite of Abueva's suspect shooting.
I like Perkins shooting though which makes him a good stretch-4, well at least in the Asian level. I think Perkin's edge over Abueva is the former's shooting."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV

If those 3 can stay healthy and continually develop, they'll be a force in Asia in a few years time.
The one thing we need to do to complement those bigs is to develop young shooters. As early as now, we should identify potential shooters (and preferably good defenders) in the 17-20 year old range and develop them further. So far, although a bit older, I like Tuffin.

Good point. I for one want to see AJ and Kai play together more, that game against China rediscovered the chemistry between the two. They've played since they were practically kids so there is a certain bond there. AJ's confidence kind of rubbed off on Kai.

It all depends on the quality of player he face,if he's up against not too tall but very athletic all around player he just vanishes,he doesn't even try to get uber physical since he doesn't want to get embarassed too much.

It looks like Abuevs & Perkins won't be allowed by the host to be included in Gilas 12-man roster..With that, whk will be the replcacements? Stanley Pringle, who has been on standby & attended the Gilas practices is one..But who will be the other guy? Hope its eithet Lassiter or Sean Anthony or maybe a Troy Rosario."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. We risk losing four players: https://www.spin.ph/basketball/fiba/...a1374-20230918
An appeal to include Perkins and Abueva in the 12-man lineup is denied, and Bambol Tolentino will appeal the denial. Worse, Terrence and Mo could be expelled from the lineup. Risk of going down to 8 men.
If Gilas manage to get far with just 8 men in the lineup, credit to Cone and the players. Still, there were 60 men in the pool. Who were the players in the pool that Cone had to resort to getting Abueva and Perkins, who were both out of the pool?
