Huh? Abando was good for Gilas last WC

    • Getting more playing time equating to getting better is not black and white. You have to take into account the quality of the team, league, coaches, etc. So many factors contributing to development of young and still improving players. For guys who are already at their peak and still getting benched, that's a different matter.

It's like looking at a HS/college team. Getting benched as a freshman/sophomore doesn't really mean the player will not excel/not improving (especially in a loaded team), but if you're a senior and still being benched, that's bad.

For guys like Tamayo, it will be good to have him play with Gilas soon to see how his trajectory is faring.

Look at Kemark Carino. He didn't get minutes or put up big numbers in Japan, but it's apparent that he improved upon entering the PBA.

Yes, most of the time it's "one step backward, two steps forward." Being exposed to higher levels benefits a player not just when he is playing. It's the overall experience that includes coaching, training, professional habits, mentality, etc.

he was ok other than highlights and fan’s complaints about playing time shot poorly, defence not that good but he played hard to make up for it.

Carino played in B2 IRC. I think he got more minutes than Balti in B1. Secondly, Carl and Balti are at a different level than KMark. I think Carl will have more chances in KBL. I cant blame him though for prioritizing money right now.

It remains to be seen if our PFs also get PT. It’s worth a try. But the money is proabably too big for the likes of Tamayo for him to refuse B league.
This is one of the conversation that we are talking before, As a young stud, much better to focus on your career and development first, before thinking about the money... It will come sooner once you work hard for it... Unfortunately, Those kids wants to choose money than development... It will haunt to them long term because their confidence will gone and will learn laziness since they will always benched in their early careers...

But if Tamayo stays to his current team longer, The more the suspicious that he will still bench by his team longer... It's obvious that Ryuku has no plans for Tamayo...

He has one year left in his contract. And he'll be 23 at the end of the year and 24 at the end of his contract, that's still young and he has time to prove himself and get another contract, B.League or KBL (if either league still has spots).

A relegation squad, to be exact. But AJ's still playing well.

I would rather to cancel the contract already than to wait for another year to be bench.. Tamayo wasting his time there in Ryuku... He should suitable opportunity for him.. PBA is also an option... He is still young and no need to rush to earn big money...

The best way for young players (I'd say up to early 20s) to develop is to always go to the highest level that will accept you. If you get a lot of playing time, then lucky you that is the best. But, even if you don't it is still not a waste.

Dwight Ramos and a lot of filams always played on the highest level they can play at up to their early 20s. A lot were bench warmers at best. But now that they are in asia/Philippines, they are elite.

Not everything is black and white.

Tamayo playing up plus him earning a lot is a no brainer.

I remember in 1 interview where Tamayo's dream is to play in Europe, I guess his stint in Japan will tell you that it will only be dream as he is too slow to play in the perimeter and too small and too weak to bang against natural 4's, he can't even get minutes in the BLeague how much more in Europe?!? His ceiling is I guess in what we call hanggang PBA lang. ✌️

wouldn't close the door on him yet, he played in the oqt and has shown he can be competitive against the serbian & dominican national team. needs to learn to play defense without fouling tho, as most homegrown pinoy players do
