  • It's OK to report on developments (e.g. camp invites), but can a journalist provide accurate context insight on what this really means in terms.of his chances ( this is what journalists the good ones are paid to do).

There is nothing wrong for an Australian journalist to admit that for this year there will be no Australian likely to be drafted and that it's looking like Travers drafted last year won't make the jump to the NBA this year. This is plan and simple objective insight that people want to know for good journalism.(the bottom line)

Ok i'll do it for you as NO Pinoy journalist has to guts to be straightforward or else will be labeled as hater.
.. Kai has a few scheduled workouts arranged by his well connected agent , the experience is any players dream to go through the process of playing in front of NBA scouts witn legit prospects in NBA training facilities (evey players dreeam). Kai is unlikely to be signed to an NBA contract of any sorts this summer (period). How hard is that to say, it's just the bottom line accurate journalism not click baiting easy money reporting. . Memo for Sayson Spin..

Kai attending camps is not headline news but a footnote one shoudl find in an NBA camp report of attendees (there is Asian attendee)

Me thinks of the time the people of Zamboanga ruined a journalists's life because he uncovered the bullshit that was the Filipino Minor League team. Being straightforward about what he reported ruined his life n stuff.

They probably realized that being a Filipino Basketball fanatic is Absurdist Sisyphusian act, and that baseball could have been the sport to break the cycle, even if it invovled aome cheating (looking at you S.Korean team who got 4th in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and early MMA Pancrase that had fixed fights that was in favor for the white fighters, and yet look at them now, best Footballing nation in Asia while Pancrase became a vital league that helped in the MMA boom)

      • only time will tell if what sayson and quinito wrote about kai will come true or not

        • on a separate note, so if kai doesn't get signed to an nba contract this summer despite attending minicamps and possibly summer league can that be considered as enough proof that he's just not nba level talent? more importantly what does that mean for his career?

Not everything they said is untrue, but their narrative on the draft process where Kai opted to declare cause teams told his agent they would drsft him has already been proven to be false, as supposedly experts they didn't even do their due diligence to check the process that Kai had no choice to enter draft and could not withdraw (Bell was lying to them in interviews and rhey didn't even realiz it )Totally irresponsible journalism.

What is defined aa NBA material is subject to one's definition, if it's Kai was a NBA drsft prospect for the 2021 draft in 2020 when he left high school (TSF) to join Ignite , then yes ( he was in a mock)

if it's determined by if he was voted as a top 100 2022 drsft prospect by NBA Teams , then NO. That's already been answered. It also has determined his chances of being signed in the next 2 years as a FA, which is practically zero chance given the vote.

Best hope for Kais career is earn $1 m per yrar as asian import for 8 straight years and to be like Haddadi in FIBA for Gilas

              • Former multi-NBA-team executive Tony Ronzone and Jason Ranne of lowly Wasserman were wasting their time, according to our resident expert analyst Analyze and his exceptional peers

                • why would an agent who earns a commission for every $ their high paying client gets be wasting their time, being associated to anything with the NBA ( camp invites , summer league) for an Asian and Pinoy only increases Kai's profile and his potential to increase revenue, thus increasing his agents potential for income, really smart move.
Kai is a highly value client to include in anyone's portfolio . (the biggest agents included)
Example Edey increased his value in the combine , and is returning to div 1, where he will earn more than a 2 way contract.
no one is wasting their time by attending NBA activities.

the people who derail Kai, are actually the Peezones of this world , who hype and exaggerate things (camps) setting up wrong expectations.

Ask LBJ for that, he has so many haters... Just believe bro, Nevermind those negative thinking persons... Atleast he will never regret his move if he fails... Any basketball player are dreaming to play in NBA... I will bet that this kid will reach his dreams... For sure every Filipinos will rejoice if he lands in any NBA teams, even as a 10 day contract guy... Just work hard and believe...

                    • Kai is on his way to earn $10 M career earning over a decade as a journey man Asian import, what's not to like about that, Especially for his agent commission earner .

for an agent to have 100 clients earning similar is not bad at all as a business.

Watch his Japan games and tell me if he is working hard or not.

                        • Ronzone tells Sotto to grab these opportunities (mini-camps). And that the next four weeks are very important.

”He’s there. It’s just a matter of him taking the next step,” Ronzone told former PBA commissioner Noli Eala in an interview. “He’s right there, it’s just a matter of him grabbing it.”

He doesn't stop his training and playing. No off season. Is that not working hard for his dream.

                              Preach it.

I'm actually convinced even Kai Ballungay works harder... it's just that he's not 7'2 (or 7'3 para astig basahin diba). If Sotto didn't chase this ambition... he'll still be entering his third playing year in the UAAP at 21 years old.

Around age 24 seems to be that time when everyone else before him who tried...

from Japeth (drafted to D-League then got cut),
to Parks Jr. (got the farthest actually making it to the D-League and played bench minutes before heading to the ABL),
to Kiefer (umasa lang knowing that if he doesn't make it before his ABL stint, he'll somehow make it to the PBA),
and even Kobe Paras (a combination of bad luck, bad decisions, and bad timing)

... came to their senses realizing they're not NBA-level. We got 3 more years tops of people vicariously living through his journey na talo pa yung tatay niya and making some of us cringe. I hate to think the NBA would wanna shut up the ̶p̶a̶s̶s̶i̶o̶n̶a̶t̶e̶ vicarious Filipinos the way they did to the Chinese when Yi Jianlan nearly became an All-Star. Tiniis na nga lang tayo ng NBL.

This notion of working hard and believing until it happens... that's not necessarily a Filipino trait. It unfortunately belongs to guys like Hachimura (NBA), Watanabe (NBA), Baba (already lasted longer with the Texas Legends than Parks), and Tominaga (breakout season in the Big Ten) who are all convinced they're good enough to play in the NBA.

Kai strikes me as someone who gets away with being more talented against inferior opposition (Japanese bigs, smaller players on mismatch situations) but does little as possible in situations where he does not have the length or height advantage. A lot of it is him avoiding injury more than it is him being a finesse big, but that tells me he's not built for the grind of the NBA where everyone is a dog, yun tipong happy na siya playing one game in the NBA as a G-League call-up then he'll settle for those contracts in Australia, Japan, Korea... then he'll wait for the PBA eligibility rules to change for him before he can come home playing for TNT. The hope is that he stays in the NBA when guys like Wembanyama and Holmgren develop into KD-like beasts and teams will need 7-footers just to close out and use fouls.

Yet another obvious supporter who didn't/won't his games with Hiroshima.

Just watch his games then tell me your answer.

Even without comparing his energy to a Mike Philips, those with no eye problems will see reality.

Why argue with closed door practices nobody can see when his games in Japan are there for everyone to see and evaluate.
