  • Just a thought, with how the current things are about Kai and his management team, if ever they get to the point that they strongly considering PBA as his next destination but at the same time are only looking for a short contract (1 or a couple of conferences) just to keep in shape for his next NBA attempt, will he ever pass us a world import in the PBA?

Does he have that mentality though? His game and in game demeanor suggests the opposite..

im not optimistic but i wont write him off for the simple reason that, we dont have a lot of bigs who are ready to rep in the next few years JMF and Japeth are up there in age. the other PBA bigs... arent really that big. the up and coming bigs arent even in college. i dont think any of us here envision KQ or Amos and whoever in current college scene to do 4 or 5 internationally. no choice but hope for the best. and some say this is the Gilas Golden G(forgot what the 3rd G is). Kai not playing to expectation and suddenly we dont have enough bigs.

the only reason i said mpbl is if the situation is he gets cut between now and dec wherein the only league that will be available to him is the mpbl, plus he can join a mpbl team as a direct hire unlike the pba where he needs to apply for the draft.

plus i think its easier to disengage from a mpbl contract than a pba contract

          • The bloggers will have a panic attack and the blame game will be pointed at everybody but at Kai and his handlers.

MPBL until the PBA draft since he cant join the PBA outright and had to join the draft before he he suits up for Asia's oldest pro league. (i'm beginning to sound like quinito).

Other leagues are in the middle of their season right? While making it to the NBA now would be a long shot

              • i really wonder when kai will fulfill that so called "promise" or reach his so called "potential"? he's a 3 year pro already and we are still using these terms alongside "opportunity" and "development".

or have we seen enough already and we are still all in denial of the obvious because either we want to see a full blooded pinoy make a regular season nba roster or we want kai to be a dominating big in asia?

i'll be honest, i never saw him as nba material but i "expected" him to be a top center if not the top center in asia.

no offense, at the rate he's going he's not even gilas' best big. should he be still part of gilas moving forward? i certainly hope so but i also certainly hope so that its not because we have no other choice to include him just for size.

Well we have slim pickings for NT bigs. Defensively, given limited minutes, he is better than JF. Being a backup rim protector to Edu or Kouame is reason enough for him to be a regular fixture in our NT. I just hope the "hype" market on him already dries up so he could focus on actually improving the big holes in his game rather than focusing on hype dunks.

                  • Kai Sotto is indeed Ervin Sotto's son, same basketball mindset..lack of motivation to be the next level guy.

                    • to be fair i doubt kai will end up in the pba in the next 2 seasons. even if hiroshima drops him there are plenty of bleague teams who would pick him up if he's not picky with the salary, there's also the KBL

5.25 ppg 5 rpg 14 mpg 66% fg - not foul prone as he only committed 4 fouls in 4 games but not a good shotblocker based on stats, recorded 0 blocks

dragonflies record during these 4 games 3-1 and lowest eff rating is -1 and highest is +14

Gilas pecking order of bigmen (4/5) right now (excluding Japeth and Erram):

                                AJ Edu
                                Angelo Kouame
                                June Mar Fajardo
                                Carl Tamayo
                                Kai Sotto

Without his hype, he should not dislodge those players before him.
