im just happy that the hype regarding Kai has significantly toned down and he could now focus on polishing his game

Dont forget Japeth Aguillar, Bobby Ray Parks, Terrence Romeo and that 6 ft 8 kid who got scouted by GS but left tk become a doctor. People thought they where nba calliber. Especially Japeth, he was the og Kai Sotto.

I do wonder nowadays which homegrown local pba legends from the past could play in the nba, even if they switched positions. Could Benjie play if he switched to SG/SF or Arwind play as SG? What of Caidic or Samboy who has a popular rumor of being scouted by Pat Riley.

My money goes to Caidic imo, definitely could be a decent bench player in the 90s ala Kerr but maybe more.

The best bet is the prime Sonny Jaworski. If you look at John Stockton, that is Sonny Jaworski. Exact same height, built, and skills.

Well they're still there. But it's now about Kai being more popular than x player, Kai having more views than x, X teams fighting over Kai, Japan media praising Kai. I mean some of them could be true but people are wising up now

No NBA yet back then, but whatever the top league was of that time, I think Caloy Loyzaga could've easily made it.

Back then, basketball was not yet a viable pro career and blacks were still discriminated so competition was not really that tough.

But NBA, most likely none. Those saying that some of our 80s or 90s players could've made it, just look at the PBA imports of that time. Totally dominated the PBA but are not in the NBA.

moving to the japan b-league from australia nbl in my view seems to be a demotion. ithink he has an excellent agency, if they could find a way to bring him back to the nbl that would be great

It wouldn't have been a demotion if he had dominated the B. League. But it seems the Japan world imports are at par with his Aussie opponents, not weaker as some assumed.

so i guess for now, Parks would be the closest homegrown we had making it to the NBA. And that homegrown tag could be debated since he spent his high schoo, years playing in the US and was suppose to play for Memphis for college. Suskc for Kai wrong decisions on the part of his handlers (parents, EWP, etc) led to this.

if worse comes to worse, I hope he’ll be signed by a CBA team, competition there would be good for his development
