as I've said, 9 times out of 10, it's the personnel. Perhaps he didn't call such plays because he doesn't trust that his team can execute. They just let Beane & Prosper hoop. You can have the greatest coach in the world but if your players are subpar, you get subpar results. Outside of Jawato, Beane, Diagne and Prosper (with Bolden, DMX and Grahita out) no one in that Indonesian team can even crack a PBA lineup.
And as usual, Chot's tactical immaturity concealed by one-man brilliance by Justin Brownlee. Chot is very lucky to have players like Clarkson, Mikey Williams, Andray Blatche, RHJ... his go-to players make him look competent.

key takeaways to the Philippines-Indonesian game:
- JB was able to outmuscled the shorter Indonesian guards and wings.
- Diagne is good. I see him as a combo forward in the near future.
- Indonesia, as a team, plays beautiful basketball. I see them winning regularly beyond SEA for years to come. Even though they can't use Beane and their naturalized big at the same time, this team is still good with their system in place.
key takeaways in the 2023 SEA basketball as a whole:
- Thailand will just get better with the Thai-Am trio of Lamb, Morgan and Lish at the top of the team's hierarchy. Bruenig could be the missing puzzle for the Thais to make waves beyond SEA. With Bruenig, Jakrawan and Patipan will get some help underneath.
- Indonesia is getting good as well. They seem to be very organized. Again, I believe they will be good at the Asian level. The frontline of Bolden, DMX, Vincent, and Diagne will be decent.
- Philippines needs to step up as Thailand and Indonesia are closing the gap. Gone are the days that we will steamroll our opposition in SEA Games.Attack

We really need to fix the program, starting with putting the right executives in charge. Those who can trust a rebuild and a foreign youth program director so that there could be some tactical innovation.

The SEAG is proving to be decent to good early exposure for Gilas, hopefully they use the exposure to full benefit for both long term development and immediate task (World cup), that's the whole point of why people are unhappy with the decision making .
the concern is simple, does how the current SEAG games is being handled give you confidence that we will do well in the World cup ? duh, it's obviously a super red flag...

On the positive side for imports for Cambodia and they winning Gold/Silver maybe will garner more interest in Basketball. Cambodia level w/o imports is prob close to Vietnam before it had the VBA. Maybe with more interest some local bizman will see a biz opportunity and start a pro league there and from then on they can improve. They have two good mix players Cambodian Americans in Joseph Hoeup and Oscar Lopez and (maybe more) unknown.

In terms of 3-point shooting, the only FIBA eligible Pinoy player I think who can match-up with Marcio is Jordan Heading. But unlike Marcio whom you can rely upon in defense, Heading isn't really known as a decent wing defender."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. The reaction concern with our SEAG outing is really valid, it's simply a reflection of lack of confidence of fans that Gilas will do well 3 months from now in WC, I mean if MVP is dismaid, then why wouldn't the fans feel the same way. It's BS to say support lang tayo. Of course everyone will support our players , that's not in question. But it doesn't mean fans are not entitled to have grave questions and concerns on how the team is being handled.
People who say otherwise, have "group think mentality "as they misconstrue support of colleagues in industry or team, with rightfully calling out poor management practice.

@ADmiral.
Very much agree with you brother. Criticizing the SBP, Al Panlinlang or coach Chot Reyes does not equate to being unsupportive to the national team. The same way as criticizing the government doesn't translate to being an anti-government or being rebellious. I couldn't understand why a lot of people have that kind of mentality. One reason why there's a lot of toxicity in social media is because of this flawed mentality of lots of people out there who are in badly need of rationale & logic. Yung iba kasi natuto lang mag internet at mag facebook eh akala nila ang talino na nila & sila yung kadalasang maingay sa socmed."A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Abando, Dwight and Carl are shooting about 27% from 3 in the BLeague/KBL and Dwight has been shooting 21% from 3 for Gilas this year. By any international standard we'd consider this bad shooting but I get where you are coming from, we dont have many options. We need some shooting in this team and someone having a great shooting season deserves a tryout at least.Originally posted by carmelo7 View Post

Tactical Immaturity is another topic but sometimes coaches should have trust players' ability, Not just only stick to system... What happened to Giannis w/ Greece in 2019 FIBA WC? Greece follows beautiful European plays but it cancelled out Giannis' dominance... Thus, Giannis became liability last 2019 FIBA WC....Last edited by paliganibossalfrancis; 05-16-2023, 02:19 AM.Manifesting: Philippines top 5 in the FIBA World Rankings

Ritualo had a quicker release which makes up for the lack of size. Yap used to hold the ball unnecessarily longer off the catch and his game was shooting off the dribble which a Chot Reyes team doesn't need. I would still take Parks over Pogoy, but that's just me. Abando can defend better than Pogoy. Agree to disagree, but the best guy for that wing spot is Ramos while JC is your two-guard over anyone in the PBA. The what-should-have-been for me is obviously Kobe Paras, because it seems there was nothing added to his game after high school. He looked uncomfy as an undersized 4 at the Asia level, but if you give him the green light as a wing... you get B.League Kobe Paras the high volume scorer that's only worth using going downhill.
re: Kobe, he had the tools, but his environment, the mentors and his mindset during the window of opportunity to get to the next level weren't it.Manifesting: Philippines top 5 in the FIBA World Rankings

Some dribble drive offenses use a lot of player movement. Handoffs, screens, pistol action, of which we saw some in the 2012-16 Gilas. I wonder how it devolved to just go 1-on-1 for the most part, and on top of that, poor defensive effort.
