I tuned in at the 4th. It was painful to see all the bricks. Maybe shooting 3s in an almost 50 pt blowout does something to your shooting. Mason is normally an accurate shooter.
theres no problem on it the issue is mason laterals is suspect even at 19, the gulang is given at 19 but the laterals is a work in progress..
Mike is perfect on chot chaotic offense haha
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.
It's a good warm-up. Got glimpses of what limited practice with available players can do. Shaky opening minutes with C-Stan, Brownlee, and Oftana throwing bricks... then the bench comes on with BGR and Phillips and the game was over once the outside shots were going in there was no way that Gilas defense was allowing easy baskets. Malaysia had to either earn their points or chuck contested threes.
Yep, that was with 2 weeks of practice. The defense was good for the most part, one of our strong points. A big upgrade from the SEA Games roster last year. The defense from that team was horrible, and it cost us against Indonesia.
And rolling with a 3 players 6'2" and under lineup for extended stretches in the year of our Lord 2023.
Two of Perez, Marcio, and Newsome at 2/3, despite the fact that we have big players at 3 like Calvin Oftana, Justin Brownlee, and Arvin Tolentino in the lineup.
Honestly, this (the lineup choices) and the lack of shooting were my only qualms this game. The rest (defense, ball movement) were good.
Isn't Phillips his 3rd center though after CS and Rosser? But from the minutes that I saw, among the three he is the best rim protector and rebounder.
How many rebounds Philipps grabbed in this game? He looked impressive in this game, especially in rebounding. I have a feeling Philipps can display this kind of rebounding prowess against tougher opponents like Cambodia, Thailand & Indonesia. I once heard from a basketball analyst saying that rebounding skills is an aspect that a player can usually carryover in higher level competition. Kumbaga eh, if a player rebounds very well even in a low level competition, chances are he is going to carry that over to the higher level game. It is unlike scoring ability in which is easily affected by the varying level of competition. May ibang players who would score well in low level competition, but pagpinaglaro mo sa high level, nagsa struggle na.
"A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but that man can also move himself, and only then does that man truly begin his own game. Remember that howsoever you are played or by whom, your soul is in your keeping alone, even though those who presume to play you be kings or men of power, when you stand before God, you cannot say, 'But I was told by others to do thus,' or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice." - King Baldwin IV
Wow! Mason Amos with 15 rebs in only 22 mins of playing time!

That is because we have three laterally mobile bigs here in CS, Phillips and Rosser. We only have one of those in the WC pool in Malonzo, and he is undersized. And also because we have Brownlee, which will also not be in the WC. The pessimist in me thinks that SBP/PBA just wants to make a show in the SEA games basket so we will forget that we will be trounced in the WC.

Mabawi lang ng Gilas ang basketball gold medal sa SEA Games, happy na ang PBA & SBP. Napaka babaw naman ng kaligayahan nila!!!
Trans: SBP & PBA are shortsighted
