  • There are called spirit of the rule and abuses of rules. Some here hates when PBA teams with riches abuse the rule. Like salary cap, to circumvent it they put some of the money to the bonuses to increase a player pay higher than the maximum allowed. Their is no limit for teams to give out huge bonuses. Also how to apply it, like win bonuses should be given only for win games, but sometimes owner will give it out even on lose games because owner feels his team did everything to win. Thats ok. What not ok is give the win bonus like a salary and loss the essence of bonus.

Thats what spirit and abuses for me of rules and laws. This is an organization, we have the right to question if there are abuses and the spirit of competition has been compromised.

    • PBA loves to violate the spirit of the law. It's high time someone gave them a dose of their own medicine. Overdose pa!

Sabi nga ng ABL Saigon coach, everyone already knew the rules 2 months ago. Why cry now?

          • Trivia : Cambodia NP Sayeed Pridgett and Thai- German Martin Breunig were used to play with University of Montana Grizzlies. And our Fil-German Christian Hermoso was teammate of Brandon Jawato of Indonesia while they were with University of Hawaii Warriors.

Almost all of their athletes are naturalized... PHL women triathlon lose also to a French native Cambodian naturalized... Only football team of Cambodia has all local line up... Maybe Cambodia only knows football as sport then the rest are unknown... For sure, If they use naturalization in football then they will get bash by their countrymen because it's disgusting for them...

But that is not the case.... One naturalized and Mixed blood players are OK, since they still have native blood to deal it... But this strange... Half of their line up are no Khmer lineage... That is not good...

                        • In this SEAG roster among Gilas players who has legitimate shot of making final 12 for WC are Perez and Hermoso if he obtain FIBA clearance. I leave Brownlee because I believe SBP will prefer JC. How I wish that at least one half of those probable to make the final line-up for WC are playing this ongoing SEAG. But it is what it is…

Cambodia’s move to enlist foreign mercenaries for the national basketball men & women teams is a slap on the face of sportsmanship … what happened to national pride? PHI knew abt this since Jan but never thought of doing the same thing

They followed the rules. They did not break the rules. All
                            Countries knew the rules
Months ago. Everyone accepted the rules. So why complain?
Because they still prioritize local talents... Asian Games are only months apart only... They use this SEAG to prepare for bigger battle for Asiad... For sure Chinese organizers will ban naturalized players in other sports while in basketball, They will only use FIBA rules to limit naturalized players... They have pride on themselves, They believe that local talents can do the job for their country... No one in the world will do what Cambodia doing right now (Except for Qatar i guess).... They are not complaining to the organizers, They are only expressing their disappointment to host morality as whole... Cambodia's local athletes are the losers here.... This is their opportunity to give their all to the front for their countrymen on their land but they were displaced by foreign players... I'm sure you have pride as Filipino as whole... Are you OK if your bet was all foreign to represent your country?

                            • Wow, did not realize that Oscar Lopez Jr has Cambodian ancestry. I've seen him since he was a junior in high school, had the nickname "the Lion" in his travel team. 6'4" very athletic. Highly touted in high school but bounced around in college. Probably around Jamie Malonzo level but shorter.

Damn, Cambodia really gaming the system on this one.

This is why personally I prefer just sending our young prospects in HS and college to tournaments like this. Just use it for long-term development.

                              • Well, it is not the first time a country has heavily utilise foreign athletes to represent them. Qatar has done it and they are poise on continuing this practice. Cambodia is doing it now at regional level. It is to prop up their image internationally but this kind of program is unsustainable. Unlike Qatar which has financial capability to finance and provide provisions to their naturalised athletes. With Cambodia I doubt it. After this biennial meet those mercenaries will be on the move again to seek some bucks.
