I'm happy that Cambodia are now taking the sport of basketball seriously... Hoping that basketball will grow there even further same as now with Vietnam... In the past, those countries will ignore this sport and not include in the event (I heard one of the host before in the SEAG excluded basketball in the list due to lack of infrastructure)... If a country will host this kind of event and will not include basketball in the event then much better not to host the whole event too.... In 2019 SEAG, Philippines tried to host football event even that the sport is not huge in that country and their arena is not good in terms of FIFA standards.. Imagine if Philippines declined to include their favorite sport football to the event?

Edit: I search and it's Laos who declined to include basketball in the SEAG in 2009 due to lack of infrastructure... That's nuts!!! Hosting a big event but not include one of the popular sport event in a multi sporting event?

Gilas senior men's national basketball team seeks vengeance at the 2023 sea games in Cambodia.

Full strength gilas will kill the competition.

Classes end April 30 at GCU so DMX should be available.
Uh.... Dalph has not played yet this year for Bakersfield so I am not sure what is going on. AJ Edu is in his 4th year at Toledo and not getting a lot of playing time, but he has been hurt the past 2 years it seems (he only played 4 games in 2 years)

If we are looking at USA division 1 someone needs to get Jarod Lucas a passport. Kid could come in the PBA right now and would probably be the best 3 point shooter in the league and get 20 points a game.

If Choke is still the coach, always have doubts to save your sanity.

Player selection must be good too. Last May, we were good enough to win, but half the roster was poor.

I think it's time we gave Carl and Oftana some burn and opportunities to shine here if they're available.
I know I said the aforementioned quote before, but I've been torn between using this tournament to prepare for the World Cup or using this to help in identifying and developing prospects aged 25 and under. This is still an opportunity to develop young players for FIBA play while the seniors pool trains abroad.

If we do opt for a developmental team, let's limit it to age 25 and under, and then those who have had less than 10 FIBA games for the senior team. Maybe a couple players who are over 25 but not over 27, but have not gotten enough opportunities and/or game time in FIBA play.

Here's my developmental pool as follows:

Guards: Jared Bahay, Jerom Lastimosa, Evan Nelle, Schonny Winston, Gian Mamuyac, James Spencer, Nic Cabanero, Miguel Oczon, Renzo Competente
Wings: Caelum Harris, Jared Abadam, Cholo Anonuevo, Francis Lopez, James Nacua, Josh Coronel, Jacob Bayla, Enoch Valdez, John Barba
Forwards: Mason Amos, Alex Konov, Josh Lazaro, Kevin Quiambao, Will Gozum
                Bigs: Seven Gagate, Gab Demisana

It should be noted that Kai meets the criteria, but since he's already a big part of the senior team, he's not in my list.

If it's going to be a developmental team, the coach should be one who can develop players for the international game, and has a good system on both ends, especially on defense. Of course, must instill a winning mentality. Disclaimer: The defense part was just my preference, personally, since I'd like a team that has a good foundation on defense.

If I missed any names, maybe we can add here.

                  Center: Ladis Lepalam

I like NU's 6'4" manansala, I don't know where to put him. tweener guard and forward. very good at perimeter defense and he can jump too

I’m still confident that we could re-claim that Gold with the likes of JB(our naturalized), Remy Martin, Sedric Barefield, BGR and Ron Harper Jr.(how I wish) as the core and let our so-called A-team focus more on WC2023.

Sea Games team will be composed of the Big 3 of Fajardo C stan and Brownlee
To becomes Asia's Best, we need to compete against the World's Best..
                      1 Big 4 small > 5 out offense.

At least it can be an upgrade to the last lineup, the worst I've seen, which by the way had 8 PBA players. 6 PBA players were in the rotation, and of those, only Wright and June Mar were useful. The other rotation PBA players (Troy, Mo, Pogoy, Montalbo) performed bad. Pogoy only redeemed himself in the November 2022 window. Additionally, not gameplanning and adjusting to the shooting of Indonesia (32-86 (37.2%) from 3 in the three games before, and made 13 three-pointers on 41.9%) contributed to that. Zoning on a shooting team, not rotating, etc.

And the purpose of the lineup is development. I understand that we'd like a sure win (for which we might need 1-3some good PBA players and a good naturalized player, yes), but we also need to expose the youngsters with the greatest potential. And besides, deficiencies in talent can be compensated for by a good coach with a good system on offense, defense, or both.

As much as we want a more younger line-up, I think we cannot do about it anymore..If that's the GrandPas wants.

Yeah, the SBP and Chot got shamed, so they'd want the strongest possible lineup to redeem their asses. I won't be surprised if Chot gets to coach the SEA Games lineup.

All of you should accept that Basketball already rising sport in ASEAN region... The reason why the sport is now the 2nd most popular sport on earth.. It's obvious that most of the countries already trying to be competitive in international competition... Don't tell Philippines are not improving, Actually their program is improving, Your grassroot program still a top 8 in Asia, But other countries investing in the sport this time... Indonesia already preparing for defending the title since last year, and planning to have another naturalized player because Bolden will be not available for upcoming SEAG... Thailand and Vietnam aggressively finding more foreign local blood players overseas, especially FIBA eligible players... Malaysia already have their naturalized player/s to beef up their squad... Singapore keep their team improving by putting their core in their PRO squad Slingers and Cambodia is also copying Vietnam and Thailand style recruitment by finding foreign based locals too.... Don't be surprise if after 10 years, teams like Laos, Myanmar, Timor Leste and Brunei will try this sport and joining international competitions.. NBA and FIBA sees ASEAN region is a big market for their business tool... They were now investing their venture here in this region.. market the sport very well, with more than 800 million people in this region, Don't be surprise for that... Long time ago, no one in other ASEAN countries take this sport seriously.. But that's the thing of the past now... You have to welcome those countries and make it love for the sport.. It will good for your region in the long run...

I have a question... Is basketball also the 2nd most popular sport in ASEAN region? We all know football is undisputed no.1 sport in ASEAN (with exception of the Philippines)... But as 2nd, who are the sport that has potential to be 2nd one?
